"Half Season" Martin Pre February Record

I had the chance to listen to sports talk today and everyone on there who coveres the SEC seams to think UT isn't in the tournament as of now. Most people also believe that UT can't afford to lose to any other teams other then Mizzu and FL from here on out. You take it for what it's worth guys, but we shouldn't be in this situation with the talent we have. It's not about saying Zo made the tournament lets give him a raise now, most people wanted a 6 seed or less and for us to be competive in the tournament. Even if we make it in right now we are going to draw a very good team first round most likely.

If we win Wednesday, we finish 13-7 pre-February. You're about four days too early to toot your own horn.

Sadening to see a good classy man be a complete failure as our basketball coach.

Wade was a good classy man as well.

Buzz was a classy man to.

That's exactly the distinction half season deserves. Directly between 2 of the worse coaches in tennessee basketball history.

1st 3yrs as our coach in games played before Febuary 1st:

Pearl 46-12 .793 win%
Green 34-12 .739 win%
Peterson 30-22 .577 win%
Half season 33-27 .555win%
Houston 30-26 .536 win %

Today is the end of the road for me as a fan that "changes" life for tennessee basketball. For many many years(I attended wade Houston's last game) I have planned family, work, and sadly even church around tennessee basketball. Half season ended that passion for me.

Today I head back into the casual fan catergory. No more money and for damn sure no more sacrificing family time for tennessee basketball.

Half season you successfully took the joy out of following this sport that I have loved since seeing tony white break the half a 100 mark.

That passion will not come back until half season is fired and that should happen tommorrow.

VN I know most you will celebrated my absence here in the basketball forum until we have another coach but make no mistake fan apathy is a terrible thing for a program.

It's a very sad day!

Until we hire a new leader, GBO and I hope some of you can find some joy cheering for this group led by a man that compares to wade and buzz.

good bye VN!

You leaving will only help the people who want to keep Martin at all cost. Stay and combat the ignorant people who accept mediocrity as long as mumbler is coach.

Don't think you'll find anybody here that wants to keep Martin at all cost. You may see it that way, but I assure you it's not true.

There are some that hope he still can find success and hope this team succeeds. Those same people provide examples of ways this team can still have success. However, that does not make those people "Martin apologists" as some people like to say. It just means we are cheering on our vols and hoping we can make the most out of the situation we find ourselves in. I am as critical of CCM as anyone and I don't think he can get the job done. But because I want the team to succeed and still accept that there are ways the team could succeed does not make me ignorant. In fact, I would argue that the rejection of other people's opinions without consideration and then going on to throw insults at them is a form of ignorance in itself.

I, like you, just want the program to succeed. I will hope for that success under Martin as long as he is the coach. Just like if we get a new coach I will cheer equally as hard and hope for success under him as well. It's because I'm a Vol fan, not a fan of a coach. GBO

Sorry performance against Florida. Martin should have been all over the refs for all the times Florida fouled Stokes and it was not called. On one play it looked like he was fouled 3 times. No call. I have tried to support Martin but I have followed basketball at TN since Ray Mears ( the great one ). The position of supporting Martin is no longer defendable. This is his best team on paper. It was obvious yesterday that BD and staff have developed their players. It was equally obvious Tennessee has not. I really feel for Stokes, he has worked hard, he plays hard, he is a VFL that obviously really cares. When he goes pro we have a much weaker team. Martin seems like a nice guy. Martin needs to make the NCAA tourney with this team. Anything less is abject failure. The expectations to make the tourney have been there every year. Martin apparently will not deliver. If we are a bubble team we will not make it. Key losses to good RPI teams along with the loss to UTEP will insure that. The future is bleak anyway with Martin's record of developing players. Next years incoming class is not that great if they do not get good x and o coaching and development in their game. Martin has sadly proven he can deliver neither. Perhaps at this point he should do something else like WH did when he started his trucking company. Until the fans expect more from this admin and athletic department we will not get it. No one would love to see our beloved Vols win out or win the sec tourney and go to the NCAA more than I. But these issues are not one game or a half season, they are year long. I do think we are at the juncture that requires Hart, Cheeks , and their departments to find the next winning coach for this team.

I wanna know when we started only playing before Feb. You compare him to coaches who lost more than they won. The fact is you hate Martin. He over performed both his first two years. This year he will do what we projected to do and make the tourny. I don't know how winning 60% of your games and finishing above you talent level makes you a horrible coach. Martin inherited a bunch of crap. Pearl got a freshman All american who turned into an all time great and a NBA pg.

The scorer on CCM's team is a Pearl guy who stats compare favorably with both players that you mentioned. Additionally, there is Maymon (8 RPG - 11 PPG) another Pearl guy. And many say that Stokes was a Tennessee commit under CBP.

I agree you take away the players Pearl recruited and where would this team be?

I loved Pearl and what he did for the program but that is water under the bridge and I have accepted that he will not return so no need of rehashing that but it has became obvious to me that CCM is just not ready for the big boys of the SEC.

McRae averaged 1.8 under Pearl. Lofton, who made Pearl averaged 13.5 led the SEC in threes and was a fr All American under Buzz. Maymon averaged 2.2 points under Pearl. With Lofton we make it the last two years. Without Lofton who he inherited Pearl may have gotten fired.

So Lofton was a part of the 6 teams that made the NCAA tourney under Pearl. I agree that in Pearls first couple of seasons Lofton made up for a lack of talent but you are kidding yourself if you believe Pearl could not win without Lofton as he proved it 3 times after Lofton left.

I also believe that Pearl will show you next season that he can win without Lofton.

U r not giving Zo enough credit, Im positive he could figure out a way to shut down C-LO and still lose.

Martin has had some pretty substantial changes in personnel year to year so far. It takes a little time for a basketball team to come together without that continuity. Based on the last two games, I believe this team is already coming together very well.

Denny Crum had allot of slow starting teams during a long career at Louisville, but they always finished strong. The same is true since Martin has been here. This Tennessee team may be a better tournament team than we have seen in quite awhile. I have no complaints.

My obligatory told you so post.
