Halftime "Show"

Baseball is boring regardless if it's "America's past time". TV ratings prove it.

Baseball is a great game for those who appreciate the mental aspects of the sport. If they wanted to encourage mindless idiots to enjoy it, they could always make it an out if the pitcher hit the batter.

Baseball is boring to watch on TV. Bottomline.

I think the lower ratings than the bigger sports has to do with the mass amounts of time between action and play - and the action will be over in a matter of a few seconds normally. It's just a slow sport and hard to watch - unless you're at the game and enjoying the atmosphere - or unless it's late in the playoffs.

The strike in the 90's killed baseball. It was the most popular sport in the country but following the strike it took a bunch of roided hitters to get the ratings back. The NFLPA and NFL should pay attention to how work stoppages killed the MLB and almost destroyed an already sagging NHL.

I love baseball. I just wish the college season didn't begin when there was a chance it could be 15 degrees at first pitch. When I was in college I'd take a three inning study break, go watch the middle of the game, then head back to the library.

Have they done the mascot game yet?

I'm not saying baseball doesn't take skill, it takes a lot. I'm just saying you don't have to be very athletic to be good at it. I was a 3 sport guy in high school (soccer, basketball, baseball) and baseball always took the least out of me. Baseball was also my weakest sport (I wasn't top 9), but I'm not as ignorant as you make me out to be - I simply put about 10% of the time into baseball as I did basketball and soccer. Something to do in the spring more/less.

No wonder it took the least out of you. I guarantee that if you put 10 times the work into baseball than soccer or basketball it would have taken more out of you and it also wouldn't have been your weakest sport. Just saying.

The comedian Gallagher termed baseball "15 minutes of action jam packed into two and a half hours of play"

You're probably right.

It was exactly the same as it was last season, just as bad. The "get into the Xavier game" free balls were hilarious.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm looking forward to baseball season. :)

I agree, and although I do not like Raleigh, I think that this team is going to be good, possibly very good. I must admit that I have never seen so many baseball players on one team. He keeps recruiting 18 -20 a year, it looks like a football team. Someone needs to break the news to him that only 9 can play at a time.

It's kind of like when Johnny Majors was here and you could sign as many football recruits as you wanted. The law of averages is going to result in a certain percentage turning out to be good baseball players. It is an unusual strategy and I am not quite sure what he is going to do with the 50 or so that are not playing.

Baseball is great but not necessarily to watch on tv.
The Smokies games are a lot of fun and major league games are a blast - just too expensive.

At any rate the halftime show was designed to promote the baseball team not necessary to entertain the masses.

They have quite a few players from Knoxvegas and East Tennessee so that also makes it interesting.

Good luck to the Baseball Vols.

Go Braves! And I too enjoy a good game on TV from time to time...but nothing compares to being at the park. I think the problem is that there are so many games that people don't care that much about the season until post All-Star break.

And btw to get back on topic for this thread. I completely agree that halftime show was pathetic. I'm glad I didn't pay for that either...

Whoever was hitting the baseballs into the crowd nearly drilled a line drive right into my face. Next time they bring the team out for a halftime show, they should at least give advance notice so I can bring a glove or something.

I have tried to watch baseball on television, it is just an awful thing to behold. I did catch one game at a major league park (Busch Stadium, in 1999) and it was a lot of fun.

I just thought it was bizarre. I usually meet a friend or two at halftime, but didn't today. I'm all for coach trying to drum up support, but it was strange and it seemed awkward for the crowd and players. Oh well.

The next home game halftime show will be a dance interpretation of the Military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. Should be a hoot of a time.

I actually caught one(was sitting behind the band in section 127). I have it to some good though. It was a stress ball. But the way this team has been playing at times, they should probably throw them out every game. Coach Raleigh could use it as well, if the Baseball team is anything like the last two years.
