Hallelujah! You've Been Healed!!

Some doctors at the hospital are skeptical. One US doctor, who asked not to be named, snorted: "I didn't know touching could heal gangrene."

Heretics. Every last one of them. Afterall, Jesus did this.

Are you comparing Jesus to a bunch of half-wit celebrities that believe in a being named Xenu, created by the self-absorbed doofus, L. Ron Hubbard?

Do you know anything about what scientologist believe?

Here's a little taste:

Xenu was about to be deposed from power, so he devised a plot to eliminate the excess population from his dominions. With the assistance of psychiatrists, he summoned billions of his citizens together under the pretense of income tax inspections, then paralyzed them and froze them in a mixture of alcohol and glycol to capture their souls. The kidnapped populace was loaded into spacecraft for transport to the site of extermination, the planet of Teegeeack (Earth). The appearance of these spacecraft would later be subconsciously expressed in the design of the Douglas DC-8, the only difference being: "the DC8 had fans, propellers on it and the space plane didn't." When they had reached Teegeeack/Earth, the paralyzed citizens were unloaded around the bases of volcanoes across the planet. Hydrogen bombs were then lowered into the volcanoes and detonated simultaneously. Only a few aliens' physical bodies survived. Hubbard described the scene in his film script, Revolt in the Stars:

This is just the tip of the iceberg. These people are nuts!!

At there core, every religion has crazy beliefs. Some are just more accepted than others. Talking snakes, seas parting, walking on water, laying of hands, and coming back from the dead are just as loony IMO. Hell, Mormons believe the garden of eden is in missouri a couple of hours north of I-70.

But hey, to each their own.

The difference being is we know Jesus lived. Its in more historical writings than the bible. Its heresy to compare followers of Jesus to followers of L. Ron Hubbards demented mind.

Matthew 24:24

"For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

Any "religion" in which you have to pay money in order to be a member and/or gain knowledge or become worthy is a sham. No other way to say it and the fact that someone like Tom Cruise is a scientologist should tell everyone its a sham. Tom Cruise is a looney bird.

Not sure I'd go there. A lot of churches have bastardized tithing into something akin to paying country club dues.

It's a historical fact Joseph Smith lived too, but that doesn't make any of the Mormons beliefs any less loony. I would bet roughly half of what is written about Joseph Smith actually happened and I don't see Jesus as any different.

I take it your Christian. I don't care either way. But calling one religion loony or their followers "idiots" is the pot calling the kettle black. I'm not saying anyone is an idiot, and I don't think you get that right either.

But what do I care. If it makes you feel better....

A lot of people dont want God to exist and refute the Bible, because it doesnt fit their lifestyle. People want to live their lives thinking there is no consequence for their sins or trespasses. So they come up with false religions, like scientology, to justify their lifestyle.

The same reason that preachers dont preach fire and brimstone sermons much anymore. No one wants to be told the truth and hear that they are doing wrong. Its religious PC.

It's amazing how quickly religion fades when there is no fear of it.

I'm sure the Dravidians and Sumerians thought the same thing back in the day. And why would you create a religion if you want to have no consequence for theirs sins? All religions have their naughty list of things not to do.

This is a pretty narrow view. I know plenty of people that don't believe in God and refute the Bible not because they want to live their life a certain way, but because none of it makes any sense.

It's easier to brand these people as sinners and miscreants than to see what kind of life they live and the moral standards they hold themselves to. They don't live good lives because of fear of punishment or hope of reward after death. And they certainly don't do it based on a set of iron age myths. The same intellectual process that caused them to refute religion and any idea of a personal God is usually the same one that has guided them to live a good life.

Agreed. The Christian notion that the choice is cut and dried and an easy one is silliness.

Right. And no one is saying certain parts of the Bible don't have some very usueful parts that have relevance to everyday life. Some of Paul's writings have great moral lessons. The Sermon on the Mount certainly isn't nonsense. The Beatitudes are a beautiful piece of literature. I can recognize that and not have to believe Jesus is my personal savior and I need to go to Church every Sunday.

the threat of hell forever seems coercive to me.

That is true, but its still your choice. He just lets you know the consequences. Kind of like when you tell your kids that somethings gonna hurt before they actually do it, then they come to you crying that it hurt.
