Man, that $hit's about off the beaten path. hahaha I had to Google. I've never turned right at Pineville before, except to go to Harlan.
It was a rough part of the county, and now it's worse 🤣. We always had fights, the police, etc. Oh, and chicken fighting, plenty of chicken fighting 🤣

All of eastern Kentucky is off the beaten path. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just stating facts. When I drove from Ft Knox back to DC in March it was insane. I didn’t see anything between Lexington and Ashland, except downed trees from the ice storms. And Southeastern Kentucky is even worse

In the past five years or so, our school has picked up about a dozen students from Whitesburg/Jenkins, KY. Both are in Letcher County. In all cases, their parents (or single parent) could find the closest work in Kingsport (most of them with Wellmont then Ballad Health in some capacity). Several of the parents had worked out their schedules so that they could work a few days consecutively here and rent a motel room/apartment short-term. But once the covid hit, whole families from KY have moved here to be close to work. It's crazy for sure.

Moved to Kingsport or Nickelsville?

both, and to Gate City...housing is cheaper in Scott County, and they're a little closer to "home," if that makes sense

There's always been a lot of that, and I've seen a lot of it (moving because of employment) over the years with students transfers (both in and out), but it's been much more fluid the past couple of years for sure.

Figured that was the answer. Moving to Nickelsville as a step up. I mean I consider myself from the country (between Johnson City and Jonesborough in the ‘80s and ‘90s, obviously not now), but that is serious country living

Yeah. I was raised in Fordtown between the old truck place on the JC highway and the barrel factory.
If you know where S Farms is right when you turn off the JC highway, that property adjoins my family's property/ancestral farm.

I know where that farm is. Can’t recall a barrel factory
