I keep flashing on Allman Bros and their drop-dead jazz rhythms (11/8 Whipping Post 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2; Queen of Hearts, and a zillion rest) along with pretty much Gregg got his hands on, plus Dave Brubeck Take Five (1-2-3, 1-2; 1-2-3, 1-2.)
Allman Bros are incredible in so many ways, but their breakthrough that makes them forever unique is infusing jazz with their underlying black blues and white Southern rock.
Count them out, and you’ll realize why you love them:
