Halzle on Nico, per Wes Rucker

Sat. Milton was 1 for 6 on downfield passes with most of the receivers wide open.
Wrong. Most of the WRs weren’t wide open. You and others who keep pushing this just like making stuff up. Normally when Joe makes great throws down field, the WRs drop it. I mean Thorton dropped a pass from Nico that was what from 10 yards and hit him right in the hands? Give me a break. Our WRs have had butter fingers the whole year.

Hooker played like trash before TN. Its amazing what happens when the light bulb comes on. From what i have seen so far this season, Rattler is the best QB in the SEC. He doesnt have a strong supporting cast thats the problem with South Carolina right now. But i think he is good enough to absolutely roast this secondary like he did last year. I think he throws for 400 yards and 4 tds on saturday. I think this defense of ours is not any good. I dont think they have taken the step forward. They are the same as last year. The defensive line has gotten better but with Tim Banks playing 10 yards off the ball with the DBs the quick game will be there for 5-7 yards all day on saturday.
I agree with some of your post. I think rattler is probably the best quarterback in the SEC right now, which isn’t intended to be a huge compliment to him, but rather just a lower overall level of quarterback play this year. Of course, most of the good teams from last year saw their quarterbacks move on.

But I totally disagree and assuming he’s going to pick Tennessee apart. The defense has played very well in spurts this year and will get a massive boost from the home crowd, energy, etc..

I do think they have the better quarterback, but I think we make it a long day for him. It just sucks quarterback is such a weakness for us. We have a 60 year starter. That’s been an Heupel system for over three years now and every game prediction, any publication put out a saying, if Milton can do that, if Milton can avoid that. Why is your biggest worry going into a game your 6th year player with tons of experience?

For all the great things Heupel has done (and for the record I have zero doubt he has the right guy for us)… but his choosing Milton, and then even returning to him again three years later is puzzling. He’s so intelligent in so many ways and yet makes a dumb decision and then circles back around and repeats it. Could it be arrogance? Or extreme stubbornness? Who knows.

Dude, yes they were. There were six deep shots and five were from complete defensive, breakdowns and wide-open. He overthrew every single one of the wide open shots. The only ball he completed was actually covered well and keyton just made an amazing play.

I don’t understand why any of our fans would watch Milton play, and then refused to acknowledge how inaccurate he is most of the time. I’m not sure if y’all are just trying to not acknowledge anything critical about the teams potential? Or is a portion of our Fanbase literally watch our games on a weekly basis and just don’t even recognize what they are looking at. You can tell good quarterback, play when you see it. You can tell average quarterback play when you see it. And you can tell crappy QB play. Milton has had maybe two games where he fell into that average QB play. Every other game is been downright bad. And we’ve never seen a single game where he was a consistent difference maker, as was virtually always the case with hooker.

I'm comparing them for the sheer reason you infer. Dobbs covered for CBJ's incompetence because of his choice of offence - which doesn't work at this level. But Dobbs made the square peg work in a round hole. JG was worse because he wouldn't run, period - so he's out of football today. Milton so far has the same disease...it's whether he learns or not. My $0.02 he won't, he's your nightmare QB, just as JG was.

Obviously, you are not watching the games. Many wide open receivers either over thrown or underthrown. He was 1 out of 6, the one that was caught was an outstanding catch. I am not down on Joe, it is clear even to our coaches he is not accurate on down field throws, is why so many screens, and other short passes. I do agree there have been several drops by wr though.

I have watched every snap of ever game this year. And yes there have been times where WRs have been open and he missed them. Same thing happened to Hooker last year. Fans just don’t want to remember that. We had a few more drops last night.

True, but he had a large light bulb to come on. Some light bulbs are brighter than others.

I want Nico to see some playing time this season, so he will be ready next season to take the job and beat Florida at home. Maybe he will get to play some in the bowl game.

Yup, go back and look. There are actual receipts on here if you care to go back and dig them up and see for yourself.

This place will be on fire after the USCjr game. I think people will realize we’re back to losing against the middle of the road teams. Vandy is the only SEC game I’d bet on based on this season so far. And if they play like they did against AP, it could be a dogfight too.
Good call. 😎

You may want to have a look at his stats at VPI. He played pretty well for them.

Saw where Milton came out of the SC game with a 57.3 rating on his offensive play. That is in can be replaced category. I thought he would've rated better than that, but I guess a lot of misses on WR's brought it down to that level.

Well that didn't age well ;)

Absolutely!! Dobbs bailed out the OL singlehandedly many times. While the 2022 OL was way more functional, Hooker bailed them out as well, many times. Today, you just have to be an honest threat to run, JG never was, Joe mentally doesn't want to do it. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view), OL is tough to recruit and develop at this level. As such, today, QBs gotta be able to move in the pocket and run.
I don't know that Milton doesn't want to do it so much as he isn't as good at it as Dobbs or Hooker.

Multiple talking heads have said he just isn't shifty like those two, basically has no "moves". He is best power running downhill straight on and can do well with that, but isn't going to juke anybody.

He did keep away from running as much vs the chickenz because his knee is banged up, which I think was wise.

While GLADLY eating crow i realized. Me being negative willed this team to play better. YOUR WELCOME. Since i just laid out some facts. Might aswell keep it going. Texas A&M drags us in Neyland in 2 weeks. This defense is weak.

Saw this stat during the game Saturday. Pretty rough.
