Halzle on Nico, per Wes Rucker

We also wanted Hooker in 2021 and how did that turn out?

Hooker wasn't a freshman, but I'm tired of you morons acting like a true freshman can't play.

Ainge, Bray and Dobbs all three balled out as true freshmen. Stop acting like it's impossible!!!!!!!!!!! It's absolutely maddening. You don't know until you try him!!!!

We paid 6 million dollars for Nico and he has had zero real opportunities to show what he has this year because Milton is too weak to blow out these bad teams fast enough.
Hooker didn’t play great at first either. The knock on him from VT was he folded under the pressure of the game on the line. He did that at first here too. Fortunately he was able to overcome his problems. Don’t act like last years HH was who we had when he first started playing. That’s absolutely bull ****.

Everyone acts like Rattler is the best QB ever. And he may be at the end but mid season last year half the SoCar fans were ready to replace him because he was playing like trash

Who said a true freshman couldn’t play?? Maybe the moron here is the one without reading comprehension skills.

This is him saying that Milton is the starter going forward. Hazel is in over his head and was awarded the OC job because of his loyalty to Heupel over the years. I would like to know who is calling the plays, Heupel or Hazel? If Heupel is letting the OC calls the plays then it was obvious that Golesh was the head and shoulders above Hazel.
try emailing the coach and see if he'll tell you

#1 rushing offense in the SEC doesn’t impress you?

How that #1 rushing offense look against UF? When we can do it against other SEC schools I will be impressed. Eventually bad teams will load the box and make us beat them throwing the ball down the field. And that’s what I’m afraid of.
They looked like the future SEC champs to me. Refs screwed us.

Y’all can hate on Milton and the WRs and the defense all you want. I don’t give a $h!*. We are getting better and will continue to get better. We will be a different team against USCe and beyond. Before the season ends y’all will be back to recognizing Heupel as the genius he is

Well maybe Alex Golesh will fail at USF and then we can hire him back as OC and demote Joey Halzle back to just coaching Quarterbacks

I think we've seen what operating at a high level looks like, whether the QB is in orange or a different color. Try as I might, I'm not seeing high level so I don't know what his definition is, other than it's just coach speak. On the other hand, can't say Nico is going to do much better, at least not until they fix the OL or they show some sort of consistency.

I have no idea how this season plays out.
I do know that Hypel is head and shoulders above any other coach we’ve had in decades.
And when he’s winning big games again I plan on reminding these chicken little MFers who they are.

Hooker played like trash before TN. Its amazing what happens when the light bulb comes on. From what i have seen so far this season, Rattler is the best QB in the SEC. He doesnt have a strong supporting cast thats the problem with South Carolina right now. But i think he is good enough to absolutely roast this secondary like he did last year. I think he throws for 400 yards and 4 tds on saturday. I think this defense of ours is not any good. I dont think they have taken the step forward. They are the same as last year. The defensive line has gotten better but with Tim Banks playing 10 yards off the ball with the DBs the quick game will be there for 5-7 yards all day on saturday.

He still struggles on the road and plays poorly (still) when he gets hit.
I have no idea what I think will happen. I’m actually pessimistic about it but if we hit him and keep it loud he’s going to struggle. Now, can we get after him? I guess we will find out

It's too bad we don't have a head coach who knows our offense inside-out,
or knows what it's like to play college QB at a high level.

But even if we did, he'd probably have trouble using that expertise and experience to decide who to play and who to sit.

I look for that Sat. SC will load the box and dare us to beat them with the pass. We won't be able to run against an sec middle of the road team, who stacks the box to stop the run. We must have a balanced attack.

First off I was a big Milton believer well before Hooker got hurt last year. Just go back and look at my post about him going back to last year how I thought he would a big year this year.

Also I never once have doubted Heupel at all since we have hired him. I was kinda hesitant at first, but the 1st season improvements and what he did his first years was impressive. I think the first year was his best coaching performance so far as a coach. Taking over a team with 35 transfers, under NCAA investigation, coming off a 3 win season which was worse in UT history. And with everything going on he still found a way to get that team to a bowl game.

Now onto Milton and the WR’s. As the season progress it appears that we don’t have the top end speed as we had last year. But I do think we are more physical or at least the same as last year with Keyton, Bru, Castles. But when you look at the numbers, the numbers say Milton is a middle of the road QB till proven other wise. His QBR is at 59.2(63rd) in the country. He is completing 62.5% of his passes right now. While that number looks good, just imagine what it would look like if it wasn’t for the 10+ bubble screens left and right per game.

This year we have already seen more drops from White, Bru, and Keyton than we have seen all year last year. Those guys didn’t all of sudden forget how to catch a football. But what has happened is that we have a QB now that has a rocket for an arm and has issue with touch on his passes. When the QB isn’t consistent, the WR’s are gonna have a hard time with balls that seem like that should be caught.

At the end of the day we all want to see the Vols do great and have something to play for in November still. Heupel put all his eggs in the Milton basket for better or worse. When Milton got hurt last week and we are up 31-0, why send him back out. Should have sent Nico out or hell, anyone but Milton with that big of lead. We need to know who the backup truly is, and only way to find that out is in life game situations. Last thing we need is to put a QB in an SEC game that has attempted less than 10 passes if the unthinkable happens and Milton goes down. Anyways GBO!!!

With the OLine issues we need someone that can get outside the pocket and throw on the run for completions or throw a TD when on the move. It is a fact that Milton has never completed a pass for a TD when moving outside the pocket in his CAREER. So I would think that having a QB that can roll out when the pocket breaks down and throw it down the field accurately is pretty important to scoring points when you have OLine issues.

If they stack the box and Milton can hit a couple of throws we will run them out of the stadium. Heup would love to have their corners isolated on our WR’s with no help. The big IF in this scenario is can Milton and our receivers make the play.

Sat. Milton was 1 for 6 on downfield passes with most of the receivers wide open.

Absolutely!! Dobbs bailed out the OL singlehandedly many times. While the 2022 OL was way more functional, Hooker bailed them out as well, many times. Today, you just have to be an honest threat to run, JG never was, Joe mentally doesn't want to do it. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view), OL is tough to recruit and develop at this level. As such, today, QBs gotta be able to move in the pocket and run.

Lol. Nobody paid $6 million dollars for Nico.

Milton isn’t Dobbs. Now why compare them? Completely different coaching staff and situations.
