Halzle vs. Kelly.....does it matter?

Agree on all counts. Nico has improved. Of course his protection has also gotten better. Need this to be his best game.
Need him to take this couple week break and come back better, like a mini-spring practice. He's now played Florida and Bama and went to Athens. He shouldn't be nervous or jittery. He can just go out there and be whoever he is as a QB. And I can't wait to see whatever that is.

As far as the Halzle vs Kelly comparison goes, Halzle's offense put up 5,555 yards and 447 points compared to Kelly's 5,082 yards and 426 points. Kelly had a good bit more overall talent to work with, as well, and a much more experienced QB.

We did also beat our Rivals Florida and Bama in our house. How did Ohio State do?

I don't know what input Halzle has in play calls and many UT fans think Golesh was a big loss for us as far as game planning goes.

I've complained about the bland offensive calls and playing not to lose and such. I have to feel Coach Heupel can see my viewpoint, is simply a much better coach than me, and has a lot more riding on winning games. If Halzle WAS making those "weak calls," Heupel can and would change that.

Our offense hasn't excited me for the most part this year. The reason for that isn't Halzle, it's Heupel.

Bottom line: I'm betting if we had "traded" Halzle for Kelly, we'd essentially have seen the same offense from UT that we've seen this year.
Whether it’s Heupel or Hazle calling the plays, it doesn’t matter, CJH owns it. The play calls have been very poor in a number of games and this playing not to lose has worked fairly well this year. However, if we’re honest, this philosophy has cut it close a few times and we were lucky to escape. If CJH wants to play the same way against OSU, I will be disappointed. He’s got to take some chances if he wants to win.

Admiral Halsey notified me
He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea
I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie
Butter pie?
The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie

He was clearly being sarcastic OP. I expect some new wrinkles for sure based on his response. I’d like to see some Sampson wildcat with an option to throw. Maybe Arion Carter in a goal line package as he was a rb in high school.

Will it matter if the OTs can't block, Nico overthrows and WRs drop passes? Or if the DEs pull a Georgia game and let Howard do what he wants?
I'm less worried about the gameplan and waiting for this team to FINALLY PLAY 4 QUARTERS.

Trying to compare offensive coordinators and their play calling........(yeah, some of you always say Josh always calls the plays). Does UT have an OC that matches up to a former HC that has a pretty good winning percentage? Never hardly see Halzle in the public view as you do other OCs. Do we not have an OC that can configure plays that work to take advantage of our opponents' weaknesses? Heuple just said we are not changing the offense for the OSU game. I wonder how much confidence he really has in Halzles' schemes and calls during the game. ? Curious that he hardly ever mentions him during a press conference
How often did he mention Tim Banks? It is CJH scheme, Hazle just implements the game plan as decided prior to the game. Please let's find something to complain about before our College Football National Championship tournament appearance. Can't you just soak that bit of info into your system for a bit? Why must you find something to worry about?

Might have some weather/temp offsetting packages.

I'm unsure what's up with this argument but I think you're asking: is Halzle not as good as Kelly as an OC?

Josh Heupel, like Ryan Day, is a former OC and QB so they're both extremely involved in developing the game plan for their teams. While they both have OCs, it's very safe to say they have the final say in almost everything on the offensive side of the game.

At this late date in the season, Halzle's role at UT and Kelly's role at tOSU are pretty set. They've both coached (in whatever their particular OC role is, which is not exactly defined for us as outsiders) all season. Lots of us have bitched about UT's "vanilla" calls and lots of tOSU fans have bitched about their running game calls, particularly vs Michigan.

You seem to see Chip Kelly as more of a "presence" at Ohio State than Halzle is at UT and I suppose that's related to his NFL experience for you? You want Halzle to have a higher profile? You want him to plot our offensive strategy instead of Heupel?

I think Kelly is there to augment Day but Day is the guy making the big decisions. It's the same at UT...... Halzle is definitely second in command when it comes to our offensive strategy.

Yep, and chief among this season’s schemes has been getting back on the ball to limit subs, but with our D and reliance on Sampson, tempo has not been a feature. Been easy to see Nico still looking to the sideline for calls late in the clock. Looked a little more like 22’ in the Vandy game.

You need to understand that our offense has a ton of different plays that can be called. The art of play calling is picking the plays from the list that will be most effective against the upcoming team. You don't change the offense every week for different teams you just run the plays in a different order. Running the same plays leads to perfect execution. Changing leads to mistakes and turnovers. Even the trick plays we run are still from the same book. We have plays that we have never ran all year. Just waiting for the perfect timing to unleash them. If they have a special one they want to use, they will practice it the week before just to make sure that everyone is on the right page.

I expect some wrinkles too, but if the offensive line is just getting beat then we wont see much of anything.

Good thing is their offense line is patchwork right now. They’re moving guards to tackles and praying. It’ll be whoever steps up to the plate takes it. One of these OL is going to win the game. Just hope it’s ours.

How'd we do against Arkansas?
I know this is a troll attempt, but we actually played well at most positions. Nico struggled behind a banged up OL, but we still ran for almost 200 yards and the defense held Arkansas to less than 20 points, on the road at that.

Thanks for reminding me how high our floor is!

Tennessee at Arkansas 10 weeks ago looked much better than Ohio State did in their most recent game, which they played at home.
