Harbaugh Getting An Early Start

I disagree, because Cowherd uses that phrase all the time. There's no way it should have confused Harbaugh as much as it did.

I don't watch cowherd so I didn't know that he ever used the term but I assumed he meant buy and not bye. Its not hard to grasp unless you're as dumb as Harbaugh

You think Harbaugh is a viewer/listener? I understand the confusion...because it was confusing. :). I do believe that Harbaugh refused to recover tho.

He doesn't have to be because it really wasn't that confusing.

I mean think of it this way, do you really think a guy like Butch Jones wouldn't know what Cowherd meant? Or even if he didn't, do you think he'd be that stupid sounding in asking what he meant?

Derrick Mason is the only other coach that probably would have been worse in that interview.

Cowherd said "you're a buy"...you seriously think that Harbaugh is the only veteran coach that would get "bye" out of that. Which term do they hear more plying their craft? The buy/sell thing is something Cowherd picked up at ESPN. It's still not established as a vernacular. (Neither is BOO-YAH). As I said, it shouldn't have wrecked the interview. Harbaugh was a mess the rest of the way but at least concede that as understandable.

You seriously think someone hears that phrase and thinks he's talking about a "bye week"? It's doesn't even make sense. Who says it like that referring to a bye week, and especially in that context.

I don't know if every veteran coach would automatically know exactly what Cowherd meant, but I do firmly believe the vast majority of coaches wouldn't be completely perplexed and sound that stupid in reply. As I said, he's said that several times before to other guests and I don't recall any other having that much difficulty figuring out what he meant.

i have already admitted as much, but it confused me too, however he did not recover, and that is the worst part. you have to be used to tripping up in that circumstance, you roll with it and largely ignore it. especially in this situation where Cowherd is trying to work with the guy and make him look good.

You're a bye...you're an easy game? Yeah I'm serious. :)

Back to the topic at hand, are secondary violations on the rise with the increased popularity/ use of social media?

Not if they're smart about it. I know a certain coach who confirms that a kid has committed by tweeting the athlete's area code. Wouldn't be surprised if other coaches do this too.

Cowherd can be a douche...he wasn't yesterday. There was a touch of man-worship in his questions.

The NCAA are dinosaurs...they just became acclimated to text messages. They're ill prepared to understand much less regulate ever changing social media.

So true. Scott Drew and Kim Mulkey served a one game suspension and Kelvin Sampson was given a Show Cause over a texting rule that no longer exists. :rtfm:

Net Result:

*Drew and Mulkey got a paid day off
*Leon Barmore added to his All-Time wins record
*Jerome Tang got his first college win
*Sampson got a sweet job with the Rocketd
*Indiana got a new coach

Finbaum lambasted Cowherd for the way he conducted the interview.

Yep, too many hard (softball) questions. Cowherd should have asked what kind of tree he would like to be.

Harbaugh's so dumb he would have answered "Aesculus Glabra". Sports bars throughout the state of Ohio would be rofl. Priceless.

I doubt Harbaugh can pronounce that.

That was the worst interview I have ever heard, he literally acted like he was either drunk or was suffering from some sort of mental condition. "What made you want to take the job at Michigan?" ....................(crickets)............(crickets)......"um".."I don't know"........"um"....."its a great school"........(crickets)........"um".......(blank stare).......(crickets)........"yes." He has the personality of stump.

Harbaugh is probably sensitive to the perception that the Big Ten is weak and was quick to interpret the 'bye' vs 'buy' in that context. I'm sure the Michigan SID scheduled this interview and Harbaugh clearly wanted no part of it. I'll be surprised if he doesn't return to the NFL within 5 years. He doesn't have the personality of someone who enjoys the role of salesman (which Cowherd was pleading with him to do).
