Harbaugh To Michigan - Updated - It's official (merged)

I know you are just being a jerk but CBJ HAS proven to be an elite recruiter and given the situation here when he took over he may very well be one of the top three recruiters in CFB.

I'm being facetious, there's a difference. He is a good recruiter, as is the majority of his staff who's used to doing it at this level. The best thing he did was go out and hire guys who know the South and what kind of effort it takes to succeed on the recruiting trail in the SEC. It's no coincidence that our best recruiters have all played or coached in the SEC before.

You know UM is still a dumpster fire of a program at this moment. While hiring Harbaugh is most likely huge in the long term for them it doesn't erase their utter failure this year. Granted I don't think Hoke left the cupboard as bare as Dooley did so he will have more to work with.

But before we start just sending the national championship trophy to Ann Arbor every year now how about we see how he does next year hmmmm?

If anything UM should at least be competitive again but with Meyer Dantonio and Franklin up there now the level of competition is going up too.
My point is that Michigan has now done everything in its power to put the pieces in place to best put them on the road to success. The power is now in Harbaugh's hands to make it work. Will he? Time will tell but at least Michigan went all in to become a winner. I don't think any of us can honestly say that Tennessee made the same kind of commitment.

All it would have taken was an offer. You think Chaney had no relationship with him? If he was recruited by Tennessee, he was coming to Tennessee.

From what I remember, he was about to verbal to Jones before Jones came here. We did not contact him when Dooley was here. Jim Chaney is not as great as many like to think.

Sometimes it IS all about backing the Wells Fargo truck up to a Big Splash name's front door. Hamilton and Hart both wanted to go the cheap route, and that's why we've lingered in the cellar of the SEC the past several seasons.

We finished 4th in the east, hardly the cellar. We are improving with our top 10 recruiting classes each year. There's no guarantee JH will succeed. Elite he is not and I bet he struggles with player relationships. Did you watch the interaction between him and his players Sunday, looked like he had the plague.

He's not elite? that's funny. He's currently one of the best coaches at any level of football. His players at Stanford LOVED him. And apparently you watched a different game yesterday. I saw mobbed by a lot if players, given a game ball, and a Gatorade bath. Yep they hated his guts.

Why does everyone assume that CJH will be a great recruiter? He is a well documented hard man to get along with. Most people can't stand him after 15 minutes. He will run off a 1/4 of the players that are their now, but he can coach. Of course know one can stand Saban, and he's only the best recruiter in the country.

Dude...really?

Hes never won a championship at any level, so no, he is not elite. Good coach though.

8 Mill for JH, what's the total package going to be for assistants, another 8+mill ?
These salaries are so out of hand. Think what this will do across the board.
If Coach Jones decides to move on in a couple of years or we need to part ways his replacement will probably be a 4.25+ mill per year man. No matter who he is!

If CBJ moves on for any reason we will need to be in the 6 to 7 mil range to keep up. If CBJ wins 10 or more in within the next 2 seasons he will have to be raised to that or he'll be gone.

Um no. There are only 2 CFB coaches in that range. Saban and Harbaugh. Youre way off with those estimates.

Today there might be only 2 in that range.

There are 4-5 at or above the 5mil mark right now, and I'm sure we'll see more get bumped after the bowls and playoffs. So in 2 years, yes we will need to be in the 6-7 mil range to keep up.

And ours has?

JH coached big boy CFB for all of 4 years...at Stanford. He took a 1 win program to a BCS bowl in 4 years. Will Butch have us in a BCS bowl in year 4? Tell me how Butch took over a worse situation than JH did at Stanford.

I never said anything about CBJ in this thread.

CBJ has a much tougher competition in both recruiting and on the playing field than CJH did taking over Stanford.

Stanford's admission standards rival the competition UT faces on the recruiting trail. If you're going to argue that it's easier to turn a 1-11 Stanford team into a BCS participant than a 5-7 UT team, I'm not even going to bother engaging in that.

No you didn't but you seem to be pretty enamored with our coach while dismissing what a BCS and Super Bowl participanting coach has accomplished.

Like I said Stanford beat 1 ranked team (at home) that year. When will UT ever play a schedule that easy? They wont.

Im not dismissing what hes accomplished, I've acknowledged hes a good coach. I just think you need to pump the breaks on him being this ELITE world beater. You seem to think its a forgone conclusion he will win multiple titles at UM...im saying im not sold on that.
