Harper vs. Lawson

Huh? She was an assistant coach for the Celtics before going to Duke.
Joe Ciampi coaching tree vs. Brad Stevens coaching tree. Again, not sure which is a bigger selling point. Coaching Missouri State or Boston Celtics. Two different paths to P5 job so time will tell on Kara but so far she’s trying to turn a program into a competitor. While Kelley is trying to get a blue blood back to being a competitor.

I never did understand why they did that. Made no sense. Imagine if dawn staley had said I think we will sit this season out. Lol What the heck could Kara have been thinking! It wasn’t the Ivy League
Early in the basketball season last year when the deadlier Delta variant began to peak, there were many people who thought that it was going to be near impossible for the season to work. At the time she and the players made the decision, there were no vaccines for most people. Despite some wonkiness with missed games, the season went much smoother than expected and the students who got it mostly got mild cases. So in retrospect, it does look lie they were being overly-cautious but I can understand where she was coming from at the time.

Why ask the question at all? Two Lady Vols we loved for years—why not hope they both have great success? With Kellie being a bit more successful since she is our coach?
yes, both wonderful LV players. While this may not have been intention of the OP, there is an unfortunate splitting that happens in the public with famous females that tend to promote rivalries versus mutual support. This is especially true in music, where K perry vs Taylor Swift, Madonna vs. Gaga, Mariah Carey versus Janet Jackson ad nauseum. How much ink has already been on this site about Boston vs. Howard. I don't mind occasional comparisons, but often they are done in a way totally denigrates one of their accomplishments. I enjoy celebrating successful women and not pitting them against each other, especially Kara vs. Kellie.

Forgive him, he/she forgot the rule that being an assistant coach for an NBA team does not count as "coaching experience" because reasons.... and neither does this I presume:
kara Lawson usab 3X3 coach of the year

It's laughable that you are using the Celtics Public Relations hire of her as an instance of "coaching." I am sure those millionaire Celtic's players, who had a staff of real NBA coaches, were paying a lot of attention to any thing and every thing she said or did.

3X3 "coach' is another ridiculous example of coaching experience. You are not even trying to be serious.

How interesting you think Kara was not a real "NBA coach" but was merely a PR hire, though Brad Stevens often praised her performance as a "coach." [Was he part of the PR stunt too?]. Also interesting that you assume that NBA players would have no respect for a former gold medalist and WNBA champ who was also a highly respected and knowledgeable broadcaster.

Would you care to elaborate on your reasons why Kara Lawson simply could not be a "real NBA coach"? As a comparison point, I am guessing you probably did think Steve Kerr was a "real NBA coach" who players would respect, when he made the direct move from broadcasting to coaching.

I wonder what the difference might be in these two cases? HMMMMMM, such a puzzle....

Well, when someone consistently misspells a head coach's name, and does so with conscious intent, that action is a clear sign of disrepect, Mr. Mayjours.
It’s my dogs name, no Mr. But valid. Bet you go ballistic when the on the 1 “t” Summitt crowd.

You know, you're in a lot of these type discussions. Why not slow down and smell the roses? When it comes to correcting, neither you or I have much room to talk.

because I was corrected on Kelly or Kellie. I’m good. If you’re offended by that than you’re looking to be offended. I posted, no need to correct.

Kellie put in her dues for five years learning under two well respected Coaches before becoming a Head Coach. I believe this year is her eighteenth year as a Head Coach.

(Kara was with the Celtics less than a year.)

From UTSPORTS article:

“Prior her first head coaching job, Harper spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Chattanooga, helping the Mocs to three consecutive Southern Conference championships, three NCAA appearances and a combined 78-15 record under head coach Wes Moore. She tutored four all-conference guards while at Chattanooga, including the 2004 league player of the year.

In advance of her time in Chattanooga, Harper spent two seasons at Auburn, the first as an administrative assistant before being promoted to assistant coach under Joe Ciampi for the 2000-01 campaign.”

How do you know I did it with “conscious intent”?

Well, you know how Coach Harper spells her name and you consistently misspell it. But if you have some kind of aphasia that prevents you from spelling "Kellie," then I apologize.

If how I spelled her name yesterday was the worst thing that happened to me, you and Coach. It was a good day!

The biggest issue I see for Kara is her league has some really established names/programs. In a bubble she might be a fantastic coach but for her to be considered great shes going to have to displace Notre Dame, Louisville, NC State in the hierarchy--and a UNC program that appears to be getting its mojo back. Theres no evidence so far shes going to be able to do that.

Wow, you are really doubling down on being incapable of admitting a mistake or being unwilling spell Kellie Harper.

If that float yours boat, man have it at Majors. I hope you feel good about yourself, I really do.

I tell my kids to watch what they put on social media. A two second search pulled that you’ve used Kelly in referring to Coach Harper multiple times previously as far back as 2019 as a Coach and 2017 the player. Again, no need to correct me if you can’t get it right yourself. Won’t mention that you left a “t” out in Summitt in this review. Seems lack of comprehension is contagious or as you stated "aphasia". I’ll leave this little nugget here for your review and won’t go back on all them. Go Vols
