I have seen all the movies, but haven't read any of the books.

For those that have done both, is it worth going back and reading the books?
Well worth it. In fact, I'd read them all before seeing the last two movies.

Movies have generally sucked and glossed over much of the information that makes the stories great.

Daniel Radcliffe and JK Rowling should hide. I don't think Emma Watson has anything to worry about.

YouTube - World's Biggest Harry Potter Fan
I've read each of them over 100 times, I know the stories inside and out. And for the last 12 years I've been the biggest, most obsessed Harry Potter fan anybody knows."

"I can wear Harry Potter clothing every day for three months without wearing the same thing twice."

"She signed this" *showing J.K. Rowling signed book* "And this" *lifting sleeve to show where J.K. Rowling signed his arm, which he later had turned into a tattoo*

"You might think you're the biggest fan, you might think you know the biggest fan, but I promise you, you are mistaken. I am Harry Potter himself, and I leave you with this -- Finite Incantatem!"

Talk about taking things too far. :stop:

My roommate had the movies, and a few years ago, I decided to watch them. I still wasn't sold on buying the books, but I picked up a collection before HBP came out.

I think I read them all without stopping. Even if you have seen the movies... buy and read the books. You are missing a lot of the story if you do not.

And, the books can be read while drinking beer... if your kid can read it, you can read it less than sober.

pretty much why the movies pale in comparison.....that and the books tell the story 100x better. some of the stuff in the movies is seriously a joke when you compare them to the novels.....the half blood prince's ending being a prime example.

Took 5 15 year old girls last night at midnight.
The most true to the book yet.
Very intense!
Laugh out loud funny in spots.
Great cliffhanger to the next one.
I give it 4&1/2 helmets out of five.

READ THE BOOK - then go.

What if you have not read the books, but have followed the movies with interest? I have seen other affacinato's of the book make this same recommendation about the books without much of an explainnation. I have never found not reading the books an inpediment to enjoying the story\movie. Why so different this time in so many people's minds?

there's a ton of stuff left out of the movies, and the story isn't relayed nearly as well due to the screenplay paling in comparison to rowling's writing. like i've said, the books and movies might as well be apples and oranges to an extent. like i've said before......they're good, but not even in the same ballpark as the novels. you'll probably get the gist of the story and big picture all the same by watching the movies, but most of it is a watered down version of the book.

It will be extremely hard to follow this one if you have not read the book. They seem to be assuming that you have and do not provide some of the "connections" that are in the book. Seeing the other ones will not help much with this one.

i enjoyed it, for the most part. some stuff at the beginning kind of pissed me off, thought it could've been done a lot better.

I will admit to having the feeling that I was missing something in viewing the movie today. It seemed that I was missing something......

Although I found the movie very well done it was .....without the content in the trailers. Not that was the deciding factor in my determination.

Watched it at midnight last night and I was very impressed with the movie. Universal done an excellent job in making the movie. It seemed to follow the book closely compared to some of the other movies. I can't wait till summer to finish it up.

there's a TON of stuff that happens in The Deathly Hallows. there's a reason they split it up into 2 movies.
