Has AJ Johnson set an announcement date yet?!

I think it would be best for both parties if he stayed, but if he does leave I'll wish him luck. He might actually do better in the NFL with the type of offenses he'll play against week in and week out. But like I said, I hope he stays.

ESPN's Todd McShay on AJ Johnson: 'There seems to be consensus among the [scouts] I've spoken to that he should wind up returning.' #Vols

When asked about AJ and Curt in today's press conference, Butch said:

"AJ is still weighing his options. We have been in constant communication. So we don't have an answer for you there. Curt Maggitt, we are excited to get back and he will be 100% ready to go. . . It is our job to educate our players. That is part of the Vol for Life program, part of our NFL readiness program and educating him. We present the facts to them, what we are hearing around the league, where we think they are at, the pros of coming back, the cons. Give them as much advice as possible. At the end of the day it comes down to them making a decision. We do, we try to present the reasons why. We are building something special here, we try to present that to them and then they have to make that decision, what is best for them and their family" (Butch Jones Press Conference (Dec. 19) - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics).

Guys relax, he is coming back. Butch is a Mack Brown junior in my opinion, he can sell ice to an eskimo politician the **** out of this... Right now during the dead period of recruiting I guarentee you Butch is in Aj's ear constantly! Begging him to lead this team. He's coming back and for once we need to be excited about a season as much as Butch is expressing himself to be. Enough with the negavol Bul**** he would have announced already if he wasn't coming back. So Merry Christmas Volnation, I wouldn't be surprised if he announced Christmas morning just to let his legend grow even more. **** WRU we are just as much LBU!:loco:

Am hoping A.J. does come back ... but if he did jump, who would be mostly likely to start at MLB?

1. Move Maggitt there?
2. Move Weatherd there?
3. Justin King ... would he be faster than A.J.?
4. Bynum? ... would he be faster than A.J. ?

How long did it take Bray to decide

Funny thing is the evaluators will probably recommend Aj return yet that Richardson go pro... And yet Aj is the way better player at this point Imo. It's because of the ''intangibles''. Richardson has physical tools that can't be taught like his reach or whatever. Gets me every year about this time. When kids play in the sec, just go watch a little film. What they'd see is a guy in Richardson that continually gets beat! And just to boot... He is notorious for getting penalized at the worst possible time. Aj on the other hand makes tons of big plays. And though he is a little bit of a liability in pass coverage, Imo he more than makes up for it in run defense and is rarely ever penalized. But he doesn't have the intangibles. I guess one way of looking at it... We'll hopefully get the better of the 2 back!

Johnson will go much higher than most suspect on here IMO. I figure 2nd rd. The guy gets to the ball and makes tackles.

An NFL team will see his film and believe they can refine his pass coverage and maybe even use him in a 3-4 or with his hand on the ground in some instances.

There hasn't been any news on whether he is leaving or not.

Google is no friend to Bing, Yahoo, AOL either.

Wow, I really can't imagine this at all...AJ does make a lot of tackles but he is not a playmaker. He only has 21 tackles for loss and one forced fumble and no int's in his 3 year career. He also seems to disappear on third down and when our defense is backed up in the red zone. He has limited range. He is just really good at making a tackle 7 yards from the line of scrimmage AFTER the ball carrier has already picked up a first down on 2nd and 5. I hope he stays because we need all the veteran leadership we can get next year and I think he should fwiw.

But I don't really think he should. Unless he can demonstrate marked improvement in pass coverage, I don't think his stock can rise much. That would probably require him to get faster, and as a senior that does not seem likely to happen.

If he can get appreciably faster, why has he not already? To maintain some weight?

I do think he is a fine MLB though, and if our OLBs and safeties made more plays he might get more love around here. BUT I don't think he can be trusted to play spy on a mobile QB, again his top speed is just a tad too slow, which can pretty important in CFB, maybe less so in the NFL.

If he decides not to come back have to hope Justin King is ready to go. I like the freshmen coming in but would be nice if they could play backup roles next season. Hopefully we'll see Maggitt, Johnson, and Weatherd or Reeves Maybin starting. Bates, King, Bryant, Johnson, and a couple others give us depth at that position.

I really hope AJ stays. His tacking ability is amazing , his ability to play in space is a bit of a liability, but his leadership is second to none. I think his relationship with Maggit and trust in CBJ will keep him here. Him and Maggit are best friends. They never leave each others side in the pre game warm ups. I hope he comes back to get our future vols a little more prepared.

I don't think he is going to get any faster without hiring a speed coach to work with him for 6-8 months. I don't think that is going to happen.

I think if he stays it'll be 30 % for him to improve but 70% for the team. I think if he stays it'll show how much he believes in Butch. It'll be to help get the young guys ready.

I feel like he is going pro... watching him celebrate and hot dog on plays he made in the last 2-3 games makes me think he is shouting out to the scouts. Would like to see him come back and actually have a great year and climb the rankings.

CBS Sports projects him as early 4th round. They were pretty accurate on our players last year.

I think he stays.

That sounds about right. I hope he stays too, but I wouldn't blame him for going pro. NFL players make the real money on their 2nd contract nowadays anyway and leaving a year early puts him a year closer to that and ~130 tackles fresher in the long run.

There is no guarantee of a 2nd contract.

I wish he would announce his decision either way, the suspense is killing me. He is the heart or our D.

Yeah this waiting game is really making it difficult to predict future depth charts. He should be more considerate IMO.

I think you are downplaying how big of a decision this is for him...I'm sure when he knows the coaching staff will know.
