Has anybody else realized our BB days are numbered

Honestly, if Pearl's teams are going to look like this from here on, then I'm ready to move on. We can't win with players that can't be motivated.

What do you want me to say? That the 8 games that Slive suspended Pearl will satisfy the NCAA and all will be well? We both know that that is not true.
Maybe I should say that the 25% salary reduction will impress the NCAA? We know that that is not true either.
Maybe I should say that Pearl will be here 15 more years, lead us to 3 National Championships and then retire? Well, we know that that isn't true either.
If you think all will be well in U.T. mens basketball
land, then you are fooling yourself.
You know that the NCAA picks and choose whom they will punish and to what degree they will punish them.
Do you really think that the NCAA will be easy on us???

Maybe you should listen to someone beside Dykes and Bilas. Someone like Joe Dean who said today that over the years he has seen a lot of cheating and rule breaking in all sports, most of it far worse than what Bruce has done, but he has never seen anyone more severely punished than what Pearl has been already.

Would that be the same Joe Dean who said Marshawn Powell might have been the best freshman in the SEC last year and a guy run off from Iowa for general thuggery is an example of the "ideal student athlete"?

The one and same, but I think we can all agree he isn't a Vol lover but a KY suck.

Yes, Joe Dean's clearly more intelligent than Bilas. They just gave that little JD from Duke to Jay.

Oh, so now we are going to discuss the IQ of the various announcers? I guess Bilas and Dykes are more intelligent than Joe Dean because they hold the same opinion you do.

Now I'm not saying Pearl didn't do anything wrong....nor am I saying I want him to be our coach moving forward.....let's just see what happens

I'm just saying that touting Joe Dean's opinion as evidence you're right doesn't hold much water because he's an idiot.

The NCAA realizes that 119 other college coaches will be watching to see what the standard is for a coach lying to the NCAA. The NCAA MUST, MUST, MUST hit U.T. hard.
If not, then they will look foolish.
I predict that they will (1) Suspend Pearl for a full season (2) We lose one scholarship in 2012 and one in 2013 (3) No Post-season play for 2012 & 2013. (4) Lose t.v. in 2012.
Once the punishment is announced, then Hamilton will fire Pearl for "Just Cause" and we will NOT owe him any money. Can't fire him yet. It may backfire!
When we have sanctions, no good coach will want to come here. When the sanctions are over, we will need to hire a really good coach and take 5 years with the new coach before we get any tournament success.
The 8 game SEC sanction is not impressing the NCAA. The 25% reduction in salary is not impressing the NCAA. The restriction on recruiting is not impressing the NCAA.
Bottom line is, we picked the wrongest time possible to get the NCAA angry. With a new NCAA rep. on board, he wants to flex his muscle and we are at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Also, you can bet your bottom dollar that Pearl will eventually end up at a school that has a history of basketball. That school may be down at the present time, but Pearl will serve his one year suspension, then get hired by that school and have alot of success. A school like Houston, Seton Hall, St. Johns, etc. will hire him. A school that has had success but currently isn't doing very well.
The bright side of this is that we at least had 6 good years of mens basketball at U.T.
I plan on concentrating on football for the next 7 or 8 seasons, until we can get back in the NCAA tourney in basketball. It will be a long wait, but in 7 or 8 yrs. we will be back on the map.

Other than telling a little fib Rudy to the NCAA about a secondary violation at best (BBQ at his house for a few recruits who didn't even sign with UT) what more does the NCAA need to do... CBP has been embarrassed and humiliated both publicly and in the media almost on a daily basis... he got disciplined by his university... which included a pay cut... but, Rudy he didn't get fired...there are other coaches out there Calipari, Calhoun who have had worse violations and they are still coaching right? This issue will die soon and if the NCAA makes too much of a stink Haslam can bring the wrath of Pilot Oil into play. If UT officials thought that what CBP did was so wrong he would be gone now...He actually did less than CLK and CEO in last year's recruiting debacles. I mean, these guys were involved in secondary violations on a weekly basis and of course they didn't know anything about those hostesses going to SC to see the players. The NCAA let that die a slow and painful death...So Rudy get a new life and let bygones be bygones ... CBP will be back for the second half of the season despite the NCAA investigation...:clapping:

I just want to know how people think once Pearl leaves we will just pick up where we left off. When Summitt eventually retires we will get a top notch coach because the womens program has a legacy to stand on. Our Mens BB has none except for Pearl who has been building it. But it is being destroyed before it reached it's potential. SO it's not like we will just attract top notch coaches. Pearl was only available becuase of his checkered past or he would have been at a top school already.

I never said I was right, but Joe Dean's opinion holds as much water as Bilas' and Dykes' which Rudy was repeating when he said Pearl had to be fired to show all the other coaches they can't lie to the NCAA. He was repeating Dykes almost verbatim.

I have a hard time believing that the ENTIRE athletic department wouldn't feel the ripple of BP's firing -- if BP goes, so does/should Mike Hamilton. I just can't imagine a situation where Mike Hamilton would retain his position if BP is fired. With all due respect, I really don't think the CDD hire is enough of a leg for MH to stand on if BP gets run out of town.

I thought we would still beat Ark because they suck. It's obvious that since we are capable of losing to this sucky team we will prolly lose 6 of these 8 games. I know one game means nothing usually but they have only played one good game in the last month against Memphis. They have no leadership without Pearl and they have struggled with him. They also get no calls at all. They are being made an example of. This season is a wash. NO east title no sec champ game. If we sneak into the ncaa we have a shot at doing something. But they are gonna really show UT who's boss.

Arkansas is one of worst SEC teams I've ever seen but unfortunately we are worse than they are. BW (BIG WASTE) is pathetic and sorry excuse of a DI athlete I'm SO glad he and SP are GONE after this year its so hard to watch them on a nightly basis although I applaud coaches for taking SP (Bruce Jr) out of regular rotation. But this team still sucks and will let you down time and again just like Fulmer did in the 2000's most of the time.

What is so bad that Hammy did? He hired Pearl but had no way of knowing Pearl would lie. Then he fired Fulmer. Most of us were calling for that at the time, and still agree with it right? Then he replaced him with Kiffin. Most of us bought his load of crap and was loving that hire. No way in hell anyone thought USC would lose their coach and steal kiffy. then he hires Dooley. From what i can tell, most of us approve. Hell the guys had crappy luck with uncontrollable circumstances.

The difference is that Kiffin didn't turn any of his secondary violations into a major violation by lying to the NCAA.

I wonder how many people actually understand this whether they support Pearl or not.

To answer your question- only you!

Well for starters he is the head of the athletic dept, right? We are probably looking at a judgement that states loss of institutional control since so many of our programs are under scrutiny....

Maybe, but Bruce Pearl has no one to blame but himself. I think where the program is right now you could get a decent coach. Maybe someone that ran a tighter ship, because it doesn't look to me that this coaching staff has much control or respect of the players. Otherwise they might show up more than every other game.

Tobias Harris is excused, guy brings it every night. Kind of sad a freshman has to set the bar for this team.
