Has anyone else heard about Pat?

My mom is going through the disease now. It is truly sad. There are different types of dementia and different types of Alzheimer's. Some progress faster than others. My mom was diagnosed about the same time as Pat. While she is dwindling each day, her progression has been at a much slower rate than Pat. My mom still knows the people close to her and she can still fend for herself a little bit.

It's a terrible disease that I don't wish on my worst enemies. It effects everyone in the family. Pat and her family are in my prayers. It's a sad day that this terrible disease appears to be close to taking such a VFL.

Sorry to hear that about your Mom. It is a solace that she can still tell you she loves you and understand your reciprocation. :hi:

It did not matter who you were, Pat treated everyone she met like they were important. I used to work at a business she frequented, and she would give me a pocket schedule just before the season would start. Super classy lady. Praying all night.

My wife says the same thing. She was fortunate enough to meet Pat a few times, and she said that Pat was very down to earth, and extremly nice. GOD bless Pat and her family.

The disease doesn't really kill you. It's usually something else. Septis, pneumonia, etc.

Not trying to sound like an ass but this is incorrect. Alzheimer's definitely is fatal. It is a progressive neurological disorder that eventually causes everything to just shut down. Sure, other things can happen but this disease kills people every day.

In 2001, Pat was a guest speaker at a conference for financial service reps for First Tenn Bank that I attended. She talked specifically about the recruitment of Tamika Catchings and how she was able to slowly overcome Harvey's lack of interest in Tennessee. She was everything you would expect her to be - funny, charming, down to earth and classy. Our school has never had a better representative. This is a terrible loss.

Ran into Pat when she was recruiting Candace Parker. They were waiting for an table in a restaurant and I walked in with my family. I walked up to her and said I was a big fan and wished her the best. She was very gracious. She and I are about the same age so this hits home.

It's really hard to wrap your mind around this. Super Heros are supposed to never pass away. It just seems like yesterday she roaming the sidelines glaring at the officials.

Pat has been responsible for so many great times on Rocky Top. I've followed the Lady Vols since 1976 & been to 100s of their games. We all owe her such a debt of gratitude. Praying for her & her family. It will be such a sad day when she passes from us.

Prayers for Pat and everyone whom she touched in life.

Also, prayers for so many who have expressed the journey they are taking with their love ones who are fighting this disease as well.

This thread has really touched my heart. Vol Nation is really such a special place.

As much as we go back and forth with each other on Vol Nation, today we're united as one in our prayers for Pat and her family. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Pat in person, but it speaks volumes, for me to have never met her and for her to STILL make such an impact on my life. The values she instilled in her players, hard work ,dedication, giving your all for something you love, valuing an education....flowed over to the rest of WCB and the world. She changed the landscape for women college athletes. She paved the way! She transcended basketball! It's just sad cause Pat truly was a legend walking amongst us for quite some time.

My prayers to all the other posters on this board that's had to deal with this disease as well.

Have had family and friends suffer a die from this disease. Their passing is truly a blessing in disguise. It is hard for those left to walk this earth but, for those who go to the other side, it is a release from this world that has tormented them for so many years. God bless Pat and her family and all of Vol Nation.

We love you, Pat. Always gracious and your warm smile. Blessings on all the family but especially Miss Hazel during this time. Remembering the fun and funny times, not just the victories.
