Has anyone heard Hadden is out?

Bad coaching

Tennessee defensive stats:
2021 passing yards given per 273.2
2022 passing yards given per 307.4

2021 % given 61%
2022 % given 61%

2021 pass attempts per game 38
2022 pass attempts per game 45

2021 pass TD’s given per 1.8
2022 pass TD’s five per 1.2

2021 pass yards per attempt 7.25
2022 pass yards per attempt 6.89

2021 pass yards per completion 11.84
2022 pass yards per completion 11.14

2021 int’s per 1.0
2022 int’s per 1.0
2021 points per 29.1
2022 points per 17.8

2021 red zone D 121st .920
2022 red zone D 6th .650

This is just some stats. “If” teams had passed the ball 45 times per game last year Tennessee would have given 326.3 per game.

Bama has the 11th rated pass D……based on pass yards given per game; however if teams passed the pall 45 times per game they would be rated at 86th.

Tennessee has give up passing yards for sure and I don’t think anyone is saying Tennessee has a “good” passing D; however it’s not as bad as “one stat.” Teams have to pass on Tennessee thus they will give up more passing yards……..no way around it at all unless you give up zero yards per attempt.

However everywhere else it’s not nearly as bad and in some cases it’s pretty good (the other stats).

If he’s out, it’s also an opportunity for the next man up to show what he’s got on the field. Been a LOT of pleasant surprises down thru the years.

We have rarely, if ever, been this thin on talent compared with top teams in the SEC. Hell, our secondary is devoid of high end talent for damn near any Power 5 conference. We have 1, maybe 2 defensive backs rated as 4 star coming out of high school, no 5 stars and most of our guys were not even top level 3 stars. The star ranking system isn't everything but our complete lack of highly ranked DB's is a strong indicator.

I'm honestly shocked that we have been as good as we are, which hasn't been very good. Our secondary coaching, the coaching and play of our front 7 and our DC scheming around our secondary deficiencies, stopping the run and getting pressure on opposing QB's has been pretty impressive so far. We are very lucky that Bama doesn't have their usual caliber WR's but I'm worried they will look elite against our thin secondary.....especially if Bryce Young plays.

Is Tennessee the worst pass D in the SEC?

Or are they simply the worst in “one” stat?

Lots of stats, factors and such make up the entirety of the passing D.

Pass yards given per attempt
Pass yards given per completion
Completion % given
Red zone D
3rd and 4th down D
Scoring D
ect, ect…….all make up at least “part” of the passing defense.

Also teams are passing the ball 45 times per game on Tennessee…….because they have had to. Every team except Pitt has been down by 3 scores to Tennessee. When teams throw the ball more they will gain more yards passing……..regardless who the D is.
Yes..your are spot on...and we will get better. We have Josh and company recruiting better players....we have a good strength and conditioning staff...the last thing we need is to copy what old prime time is doing...popping those hamstrings? Lol

One thing I can say we have definitely learned about Heupel is that he will never truthfully and fully discuss players availability before a game. This includes both injuries and disciplinary situations.
I think you are right. And is silly to think that it would be announced on some website before they wanted it known.

I think redzone D would be a good indicator about how well the D is playing. FYI I have no clue what the stats are for it but the one stat I do know is 5-0!!

I will also point out that CJH seems to be addressing the secondary in the upcoming recruiting class. If I remember correctly I think there is 2-3 commits in the top 300 that will be playing in the secondary.

We are going to win a lot of games if we continue to hold our opponents to 17.8 ppg.

I’ve noticed many talking heads and articles harping on UT pass D and how bama will exploit it and torch us if Bryce Young plays.
Bama has played 3 schools this year who actually take football seriously, only Arkansas was ranked, and bama managed a total of 562 yards in the air.
No Bryce Young did not play 100% of the offensive snaps in those games but all we hear about is Alabama and their depth of 4* and 5* phenoms up and down the bench all the way to the water boy so can’t use that excuse for that kind of lack in production when they love to boast the talent in any other conversation.

I think the secondary steps up to the challenge and makes the plays needed to win this one!
