Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10?

I'm just going to stay with Windows 3.1.

Windows For Workgroups is all you need. Oh man what was that kludge of TCP/IP networking that came with that?

I worked at a Xerox facility around 99-2002 and we had an operating WFW PC at the gym facility. It was running some junk software that was apparently only ever released for that OS.

All I remember is that was the 2nd most dreaded call you could take. The first was when the ancient HP/UX box started messing up.

where are y'all seeing this icon that you say showed up a couple days ago?

Bottom right in the clock area if using the desktop screen.

Click it and you have it pre-load (background download and get ready) Windows 10 for you and then it'll remind you to install.

I'm not seeing that at all...weird

did y'all just get some small update that included it?

Not really. All they did was condense the Metro menu into the actual start menu, and change the recycle bin icon a few times in the 10 TP.

So the kernel changes, new browser, and update strategy don't mean anything? Check.

Are you running Windows 7 SP1 Crusse?

I've got the icon on every other machine I've got but noticed it is not showing on this laptop I'm currently using.

I googled online and found several solutions none of which seemed to work for me. I tried 2 different scripts I found online and ran them not only as admin but I even logged into the admin account and tried running it there to no avail. There was even a mention of running GWXconfig in Task Scheduler and that didn't even bring it up.

I'm curious about the browser. I wonder if it's going to be Microsoft's replacement to the IE browser?

The kernel changes aren't anything special. Besides, they are raising it to match the OS, and the only people who will be affected are software developers whose programs rely on the version number of the kernel in their code.

The new browser is just going to let people download Firefox and Chrome. Also, Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot with website developers, because no one is going to have full support for Spartan/Edge out of the box. Of course, website developers don't like moving past IE8 either, but that's another story.

The update strategy is going to lead to problems, and they will end up going more to a "Patch Tuesday" method, as Windows 10 get more mainstream. As an IT professional, it scares me for my clients when they are tempted by something like this, because a move away from the traditional can be a bad thing.

It is. It's a complete replacement. No IE offering with 10.

It is a replacement for IE.

As an IT professional, I'm excited and will be deploying it as soon as it can be certified.

You do you.

Also, I'm sitting across from a webdev who thinks you're terrible at knowing how the webdev community rolls.

Damn. I just got accustomed to Windows 8.1.

Our machine at work that was running Windows 95 just finally died.

Coming from the guy that wants to deploy 10 in production, because it excites him, I could honestly care less what your webdav guy says.

I don't understand you. You may be the least innovative person that works in an IT field that I have ever and encountered.

On, no. The advantages on our tablet devices don't exist. Nope. Not at all.

Right now I have several medical clinics running Lenovo Twists and x230s, both having Windows 7 Pro x64, and none will benefit from upgrading to Windows 10. Also, unless your software people support it, then upgrading won't help either.

Innovation and stability aren't interchangeable most of the time. I care more about making sure my clients are stable, secure, and within their compliance, than making them a beacon of innovation. Windows 7 will be in support until 2020, at least, so they have time to prepare for the next step with their hardware and software, while maintaining that stable, secure, and compliant environment they are in right now.
