This is the dumbest most anti free speech ******** that I am not sure why it has support from any corner of the populace.

Ted Cruz slams San Antonio plan declaring 'Chinese virus' to be hate speech: 'This is NUTS'

Spew all the hate you want. I also think hate crimes are a stupid creation of the legislature. If you kill someone because of their race, sexual orientation etc. i think it shows a level of depravity and will be reflected in the sentence and mercy shown by the court and later the parole board, but it shouldn't be a separate charge.

Hate speech is just that hateful speech, it isn't becoming but it is protected by the highest levels of our law.

Agree about hate crimes. It was a first step that will only serve to muddy the water down the line, the old slippery slope argument. Crime is crime, your motivations don't really matter to the end result which is what is being punished under the law.

I think there's a difference in hate vs inflammatory speech. Bob at the coffee pot has much less of an impact than someone talking to millions. Know your audience and your responsibility to them. Act like an adult and there are really no reasons for this

So what kind of food can I order now at Panda Express? SF and NYC need to rename certain parts of their racist cities as well... amidoingthisrite?

Some here might remember being told as a kid that sticks and stones might break your bones but words will never hurt you..well that line of thinking is long gone. Sticks and stones will break your bones but words will emotionally scare you and give you PTSD and a scapegoat for everything wrong in your life because its never your fault, its someone elses.

I am firm believer that it is the intent behind the words that matter. Trump meant it when he used it as a dig at the chinese. I didn't find it to be a dig at a race, but rather the government of a country. But there is no question that he meant it to be offensive. Even if it was meant to be racist, I believe he is well within his rights to spew racist rhetoric. There is a solution... vote him out.

For the government to censor the speech of its citizens through passing laws directed at particular words does not pass constitutional muster. You want free speech? Then you have to acknowledge and accept that another man has a right to speech that makes your blood boil. You have to accept that it is his right to claim a platform and espouse ideas that you find repulsive. That is free speech.

Look at you coming in with reasonable and rational thought . This is something most of the comedians have been saying for a while . The PC culture was ruining the country .

Not happening to us but Houston is issuing fines to companies who haven't gotten their annual inspections, inspection centers have been closed for over a month.

Gotta love the great communist state of Texas.
