Hat i want to get your thoughts on the incoming recruits and how good you think they'll be. It seems like when Bruce brings in a top 5 class it isn't nearly as good as it's hyped up to be. Do you see that being the case this year or is Bruce bringing in players that will have us conisistently battling for a final 4 appearance?

There aren't any Marques Johnsons or Phillip Juricks in this class. The two guards will be very good SEC players in time. Tobias Harris is an elite player, though he's not as good as his hype. People expecting to see UT's version of Carmelo Anthony are going to be disappointed. This is the kind of class you have to recruit to win championships.

what can we expect from McRae next year? Hoping he's not a project that Bruce will have to develop.

He'll play, but if Tatum and Hopson perform as they should he'll be able to adjust to the college game at his own pace.

What about people hoping he can replace Chism's production? Is that thinking too wishful as well?

[I recognize that he will play the position differently, so replacing the production doesn't necessarily mean have the same numbers.]

I don't understand the question.

The question is Harris better than any player on our current team, including the seniors. He seems to be able to do many more things than Chism, although I very much like Chism. He does not appear to be a true post-up player, but is more in the mold of T. Smith. Will he not be our most talented player?

It's an offensive upgrade and a step back defensively from an individual point of view. Harris will be a very productive player. If Brian Williams continues to handle the boards as he did in the NCAA Tournament, Tennessee will be just fine at the 4 and 5 positions.

He's more talented and versatile than anyone on Tennessee's roster.

You're right. He's going to be better. He will probably average something like 40 points, 22 rebounds and 16 assists. And will not commit one foul the entire season.

Seemed like Brian was in much better shape post-probation than he has been in previous seasons, which is not unrelated to his board work in the tourney this year. Just seemed a step quicker beating his man to his rebounding spots and getting after the ball.

Good to hear. Sounds like the 4/5 may be a serious upgrade over this year (although maybe not over this year's NCAA tournament) if BWill continues to be the consistent double-double threat that he was in the last few games (which is reasonable for him, I think).

Then we just have to find a way to replace Prince's production (I think Goins will do fine covering for Maze). Scotty? Cam? Swipa, perhaps? Boys, it's time to make your move.

Prince's ability to pass over the top of shorter players from outside will be missed. We got a whole lot of pts this season with Prince simply dishing inside to Wayne.

I'm not sure we have many good passers on next year's team.

And if you think that is awesome, wait til you see Maymon

You didn't let me finish. All of Harris's assists will be to Maymon. Scotty will fold like a beach chair as usual thus moving Maymon to the two guard position where he (and his dad) will prove that Buzz Williams, was in fact, playing Maymon out of position.

Hat, I understand he is not as good as Carmello, but his game looks similar to me from the little of him I have seen. Would you go so far as to say he is a poor mans carmello or a completely different player? Do you think he willl be one and done? If we get the same production from scotty this year what do you predict our season will look like next year?

Thanks for the info hat.

They're somewhat similar, but Harris isn't going to be a guy who can competely dominate a game. I'll be surprised if he's not in Knoxville at least two years. Assuming Tennessee doesn't sign Selby, I think they'll contend for the SEC title and be a Sweet 16 caliber team. Too many young guys playing crucial roles for me to expect anything better.

That's what I love about Bruce Pearl teams, just when you expect nothing, he slaps you in the face and says "who's your daddy". Or in other words, he performs the best when no one expects.

I think it would be reasonable to assume that given the whole season to mature that the new players could be tourney ready and go deep in the NCAA.

Why would you want the opinion of a guy who wouldn't know talent if it smacked him across the face. I mean he is the same guy who said JP Prince would never be a SEC caliber player and was a waste of a scholarship.

honestly. I don't know the dude ur talkin about when asking about our incoming talent.

Believe me tho, I love JP and what he was able to get done for us in the tourney and toward the end of the season this year, but the weight of his TN career is not negated by the fact that he kicked it into gear late late in his senior season...JP, if he had that kind of ability all along, should have been playing for us like that for the past 3 years.

When JP first transferred, Hatevol96 was going on and on about how undeserving of the chance he was. I am just pointing out that while Hat may have a good take on the game itself, his knowledge regarding players and their talent is limited.
