HatVol hits the Big Time...

Well, name others who have had five freshmen who were NBA picks after their first season? Who has the #1 class this year and last year? I don't like Cal, but to indicate he is not the best or at least one of the best recruiters is ludicrous.

Oh, one word was used in the course of defining the other? Totally got me.

Try one of these:
What is the Difference Between Ethics and Morals?

Values, Morals and Ethics

Morals and Ethics

Difference between Ethics and Morality

Let me know if you need a hundred more.

Lame... I'll take the definition from the Merriam-Webster dictionary over buzzle.com, religiousbook.net, changingminds.org, and wisegeek.com. Look at it however you want but the two are very closely intertwined. Anyways, debating the definition of words is not why I get on VN so I'm gonna drop this...

I agree with this. While I hate Cal with every fiber of my being, no one and I mean NO ONE can or even should try to debate his ability to recruit, regardless of how he does it. I do not believe he is a better x's and o's coach than Bruce though.

When you sign the best talent in the nation year in and year out, you don't have to be a great X and O coach. I agree with you though. If he were a better floor coach, he would have had a national championship last year and against Kansas while at Memphis.

the KU / Memphis thing was FTs, bad luck and some awful end of game officiating. I'm no Cal fan, but he has had his guys there.

The KY squad wasn't there because youth doesn't commit to the things that win like experience. Talented youth generally can't beat talented experience.

That's basically what I was getting at. I think his ability to handle big personalities (or big babies as was the case with D. Cousins) would definately suit him for a career as an NBA coach. Which I think is where he will ultimately end up because organizations are gonna keep throwing money at him.

In regards to Pearl, I don't like the argument that his run and gun style is a lack of coaching ability. I see it as organized choas and he recruits players who can play in that system. I don't get the criticism, you see it all the time in CFB - there are coaches who run certain systems (i.e. the spread offense) that recruit certain type guys to play in that system. What's the difference?

He completely blew the Kansas when he didn't foul with a 3 point lead and allowed Kansas to tie the game. His talent was so good last year that he should have won even with freshmen. No one in the final four had close to his talent level. Besides, he also had Patterson for veteran leadership.

You do realize Kansas had more NBA guys on the floor than Memphis that night, don't you?

he did foul. It was absolute garbage that it wasn't called.

He told them to foul and they tried to do so. What was Cal supposed to do? Tackle Sherron Collins?

That is correct. However, I felt that Memphis had the game won. Not fouling with a three point lead at the end of regulation cost them the game.

My point is if the foul wasn't called when Collins was fouled, why not foul Chalmers prior to his game-tying shot? I do agree that a foul could have been called on the Collins play.

At that point, you run the risk of getting it called a shooting foul. It's not like Chalmers held it for long.

Good point! I find it hard to argue with that. I just felt that with the limited time left in the game and a 3 point lead, they should have been able to foul and get a foul called. If that had happened, they likely win the game in regulation. Some coaches do not agree with the foul with the three point lead for the very reason you indicated, as well as the ability to hit the first shot and rebound the second for a basket.

Let's just put it this way: If Memphis hit there FT's (which Cal saying it wasn't a big deal that they weren't good from the line) we wouldn't be discussing it.

Please no, it ain't you, and I wager you cannot refrain from relapsing into the hat we have come to love/hate/respect/revile (those reading pick their emotion).

I know I come to this thread after most of the posters have most likely moved on to the next hot topic, but I will throw out my two cents worth, (wonder how long before someone uses that against me?)

I don't agree with hat all the time, but I enjoy his posts damned near all the time. Without him I dare say I would not stay on VN. It has become so dumbed down as evidenced quite well in this thread.

I admit to bias, I have met hat, communicated outside of VN, and I know him to be a stand up guy. I'll not provide details, but he went out of his way in my behalf unsolicited. I apologize hat if this is out of line.

If you state your honest opinion, as hat does, and your opinion is based on facts and inside knowledge of the UT program as his is, you are not a NegaVol. You are simply an InformedVol, not allowing your love of UT to cloud your judgment. Oh in case anyone has any thoughts of him being Small Mike, absolutely not.

To accuse me of not being a UT fan because I feel this way is ludicrous.
