Nov 2008 I thought the Wyoming loss was rock bottom
Enter Kiffin and a great recruiting class and there was hope.

Jan 2010 I thought Kiffin leaving was rock bottom
Enter Dooley and a convincing press conference and there was hope.

Nov 2011 - I thought the loss to a qb-less UK and the loss of 7 assistant coaches was rock bottom.
Enter Graham, Sunseri, Patterson and an electric offense and there was hope.

Sept 2012 I watched UT pack it in after leading UF for 3 quarters. And later saw the worst defense in UT history and I thought we hit rock bottom.
We fired Dooley at the end of the year and did it with a level of class not afforded Fulmer and I thought there was hope.

Dec 2012 We free up $18mil to correct systemic problems with our football program and I thought heck yeah! They finally get it!
Today we hired Butch Jones?

Why announce the presence of a huge warchest if there's no plan to use it?

Exactly. Butch Jones has never beaten a team that finished in the top 25.

If it weren't for him being paid millions, I'd feel bad for him. He has zero chance of success.

We hired a guy with a better defense than Strong (UC finished 12th in def.), and with a 2-1 record against him. Not to mention UC averaged 200 rushing yards a game (31st)...I mean we got a guy whose team never gave up more than 35 points and held their opponents to 10 points or less 5 times! What f**cking more do want? A sexy name? Sounds like you and others wanted a spokesperson and not a damn football coach.

Honest question. Do you not see a pattern here? Kiffin, Martin, Dooley, Jones? How many diamonds in the rough are we gonna hire? We're 8th nationally in athletic dept revenue. 5th nationally in bball attendance, 3rd largest stadium in the nation. How bout spending some of that revenue on proven leadership? I'm not askin for Bill Belichick but come on! When will they learn?

Is that his fault? When we went after Strong the excuse was the he won with talent on par for the conference and now all of a sudden it matters again? WTF? Butch owned Strong with lesser talent. GTFO with all the BS negativity. People can't even let him coach one game before criticizing him.

:lolabove: A guy who has little or no southern connections. Has never beaten a decent team. In spite of the Brian Kelly comparisons, didn't have a record in the same universe as Kelly.

2013 is going to be brutal. We may be staring 4-8 right in the face.

So a guy that has winning season 5 out of 6 seasons ... went to a bowl game 5 out of 6 seasons. Had a top 20 if not 15 Def in the nation. In your opinion is going to do worse that Dooley?

Other SEC teams are rising, we play eight tough competitors in the SEC next year and one of our four OOC "cupcakes" is Oregon at Autzen. Oh, and we're losing our top playmakers, recruiting will take a hit, we'll have player and position coach defection and we've just hired a coach who's never coached a game in the SEC. It can get worse.

Every successful coach started out as a diamond in the rough at some point. Atleast CBJ was willing to say "yes" to the UT job. How many of the poven leadership coaches declined our offer?
Go Vols!

Where was Strong at during this time ... I just wanted to see the deference in the two.

This might be true at some other level, but in the SEC, coaches who can recruit win games. Plain and simple. Unfortunately for UT, Jones has proven he's a pretty lousy recruiter.

I think it's a legit possibility. At least Dooley had worked in the SEC as a position coach and had HC experience recruiting the south. Jones has none of that. We couldn't even win when Dooley was pulling in classes ranked 20th or so, what makes you think we will when Jones is landing us classes in the 40's or 50's?

I'm still undecided on this hire, and wanted a big name as much as anyone, but to be fair to Jones, let's look at some comparisons:

UGA:
Mark Richt- FSU OC. Not as well known as Jones

South Carolina
Spurrier and Holtz, both more proven than Jones and it has worked out great for their program

Florida:
Muschamp- Texas DC
Urban Meyer- Utah and Bowling Green HC
Zook- NO Asst. who was unknown

Vandy:
Franklin- OC Maryland
Bobby Johnson- HC in FCS

Bama:
Saban- More proven than Jones
Shula- QB Coach somewhere in the NFL
Price- More proven than Jones
Franchione- HC at TCU. About the same as Jones considering the timeframe

LSU:
Miles- HC at Oklahoma State, more name recognition than Jones
Saban- HC at Michigan State, more name recognition than Jones

Arkansas:
Bielema- More name recognition at bigger job
Petrino- More name recognition at bigger job

Auburn:
Malzahn- Lot of name recognition for a career HS, OC, and one season as HC in SBC
Chizik- Iowa State. About the same level as Jones.

Screw all you NEGAVOLS tired of hearing it. Support your team or GTFO. Give the man a damn chance. You sound like an absolute idiot talking about what he is going to do and you have no idea who he is other than google. I'm guessing you have only seen him coach 1 game UT vs. UC STFU
