WOW BYU over an SEC program. Guess the kid didn't have the heart for real competition.

Good luck in the minors.

I think it is clear that his Mormon faith is a bigger priority than football in his eyes.

That's horse pucky!! Mormons play ball all around the country, there is temple in Knoxville. Let's forget faith for a minute, for any kid to pass up a chance to play in the SEC not just UT for BYU, come on they have to know in their heart they can't compete.

I think Heaps can compete and that you're underestimating his religious devotion. Some say that his parents made him go to BYU. Heaps himself said that BYU was the first to offer and trust in him. Which one is the reason? We don't know.

Anyhow, what's done is done.

Not all mormon's take the mission. You are correct that it is not tasked to them. It is expected of them, though.

Part of my problem with the Tebow praise is the fact that nearly all mormon athletes do more charity work than Tebow and nothing gets mentioned of it.

I'm not a fan of the religion but they do a lot of charitable work and get very little credit for it in the media. Yet Tebow takes a much shorter missionary trip, brings camera crews along and he gets proclaimed as the greatest human being of all time. He also wasn't living in the conditions that a lot of mormon missionaries put up with. Complete crap.

Not true. First I've experienced the tebow mission program. I understand your point that mormans do charitable work which is true, however, not all mormans do, as well as all christians don't but some do even though its expected. Tebow (especially in his younger years) when going on missions didn't live in great conditions at all and did some great work. I applaud him for proclaiming the name of Jesus. I know that half the people in america think he's doing it to make him look better but he's not. I hate florida but anyone on this board is an idiot to think he isn't a model student athlete. And Tebow did not take a camera crew. His parents are missionarys and people know that. They followed him. Plus its good press to get people interested in going on missions. The best part is he takes and gives absolutely NO credit to himself and gives it all to the Lord. Again I agree with your point that mormans do work that doesn't get recognized but I will bet there are less than five if any morman student athletes that are as model of a student athlete as tebow and again I hate Florida and that he plays for him, but you gotta love what he's all about.

Again most ding dongs on this board think that football is the only thing that people make a decision on. You can't just forget faith for a minute. a morman temple in knoxville (again not certain just assuming) is not the same as going to a school where most share your religion and the religion was founded in that state. He may have not liked knoxville who knows. Or he may have thought BYU was his best football fit. All we know is that he isn't coming here and we have to live with it.

I think the Mormon faith was resurrected in Utah after John Smith was ran out of New York and Missouri. It doesn't really matter, that is the center of the Mormon faith and it is also a damn good place to be a QB and get to the NFL. They may not be as football crazed as the SEC but BYU doesn't take a back seat to anyone in the SEC when it comes to finding and developing QB's. You are correct, it is time to move on.
