I quit watching the Heisman Trophy garbage when Peyton Manning was screwed out of it. It has totally resorted to politics and is based on the area of the country where the most media votes are located. Most people realize this. Even though Hendon Hooker should win it hands down ,he will never get enough votes simply due to the fact he plays for Tennessee(fewer votes in this regional area). This is strictly my opinion and from talking to many others they feel exactly the same way. So, I had rather watch old Mayberry RFD rerunds than watch any Heisman presentation.

It always has been. Look at 1956 when Paul Hornung won it over Majors for leading Norte Dame to a 2-8 season. Debates Down South: Was Johnny Majors robbed of the 1956 Heisman Trophy?

I'll tell you what I'm gonna do, when Hendon and maybe Hyatt are invited to New York...I'm going to watch the Heisman livecast for the first time since Peyton wore an orange and white jersey. :)

I'll tell you what else I'm going to do, should Hendon stand at the podium to accept the trophy at that ceremony: I'm going to start looking forward to Heisman House commercials on TV. lol

Finally, I'll tell you who I'm going to be watching most closely for their reactions while Hendon is giving his acceptance speech: Heath Schuler, Peyton Manning, and Josh Heupel. All three of whom should have been at that podium in years gone by. They will all be living vicariously through Hendon, and will be his three greatest fans that night. Along with his mom and dad and brother.

Go Vols!

What would happen if a big time player said the Heisman Trophy was a popularity contest and he didn't care if he won it or not? I would love to see that one day.

I have said for a long time if there ever was a Tennessee player to win the Heisman, they should walk up there, stand at the podium with trophy in hand and refuse to accept it on behalf of Jonny Majors and Peyton Manning because of the voting malfeasance that robbed them both of winning the trophy. Then, hand the trophy back and walk off the stage.

No they don’t. Big 10 is signed with Fox for the next years. SEC is ESPNs baby now.
You may have something here. However, I don't think ESPN will openly support a SEC candidate. (other than Ala.) I think they would just not say anything.

They’ve been hyping Hooker all year. Gameday has been a Hendon4Heisman love fest with at least 3 panels (and even Stephen A Smith!!! guest picker yesterday) hyping Hendon Hooker.
Pollack, Desmond have both said Hooker has their vote now. Herbstreit has strongly implied that if not come out and said it.
What else do you want them to do? Plaster his face on Times Square?

My biggest concern is that the PR campaign for Stroud has been going strong for more than just this season. I expect they will justify giving it to Stroud because a Big 10 player hasn’t won the award since 2006.

I think most in them media would agree that Hooker is current leader, but it isn't like he's head and shoulders above Stroud. I know everyone is still sore about 97, but as long as Hooker keeps playing at this level and we keep winning, we will win it.

Without looking it up, can someone tell me when and who was the last Big Ten player to win the Heisman??
I think for the last several years the SEC has dominated the award.

I have a feeling that in the last 50 years the SEC has more Heisman winners than any other conference.

I’m with you OP, I have not watched nor cared about the Heisman since PM lost it. Still won’t watch it. I wish HH all the well wishes in the world, but I won’t be watching the Heisman award show. I’ll stick with by my principles.

And stay off my lawn.

Heisman ads are one reason I would never consider a Nissan.

Gotta be honest, though, I’m gonna be in market for a truck to tow my camper and the Nissan Titan has a surprisingly good towing capacity for its price point.

But yeah other than that Nissan is kind of lost on me.

The trophy was supposed to go to the best college football player in the NCAA. It has become the best player on the best team, or a popularity contest. I wasn’t born in 56, and don’t know who was the better player, but it shouldn’t matter what the team record was. Who is the best player in the NCAA?

Agree, too many media members are Big10 nob slobbers… despite 15 years of SEC dominance

What??🙄.

That would be a total disrespect to all the other candidates that strived to get the trophy this year. It's an award.
If you don't intend to accept it, then just don't come to the presentation.

And have you even considered how much stuff like that helps recruiting???
Come on, dude....😕

I don’t think that would happen. But if Hooker were to win it, I would LOVE for his acceptance speech to reference Majors and Manning.
