Just another reason for Meachem to come back next year, to help bring the Heisman to UT. :eek:k:

Just to clarify, Hornung was a single-wing HB at Notre Dame.

I just looked at the numbers, and the Big 10, Pac-10, and Notre Dame have combined for 32 Heismans. The SEC? 7. The entire conference has the same number of Heismans as Notre Dame and Ohio State do individually.

The Heisman itself is the most overrated award in college football; it rewards nothing that the Maxwell or Walter Camp don't also claim to reward. I might create my own award for the same thing just to make sure we at least get an SEC player in there once in a while.

By the way, it's been over 10 years since the last SEC winner....that means there'll be one next year!

those are interesting numbers. i've always thought the ap voters had a bias toward the big 10 and notre dame as well.

Alley,

If you refer to George Rogers' award in 1980, I didn't count it. Here are the winners...

1942 - Frank Sinkwich - Georgia
1959 - Billy Cannon - LSU
1966 - Steve Spurrier - Florida
1971 - Pat Sullivan - Auburn
1982 - Herschel Walker - Georgia
1985 - Bo Jackson - Auburn
1996 - Danny Wuerffel - Florida

I'm gonna get a lot of negative responses for saying this. But troy smith is winning the heisman because of his team's success. Based on his performance alone (and his numbers), he doesn't deserve it.
I made the same comment a few weeks ago and got hammered on this forum because of it. Troy Smith's stats are pedestrian. This has to have been one of the most dissapointing Heisman races I have witnessed IMOP. I hate Notre Dame, but Brady Quinn's numbers made Troy Smith look like decimals and he got third? Unbelievable!

Wow, no wonder you got hammered.

Brady Quinn has 700 more passing yards than Smith and 5 more TD's. Smith has a 67% completion rate and Quinn has 63%. Smith had a running game that produced 2181 yards total and Quinn's running game had 1495 yards total, so there is the 700 yards difference in passing. Smith's running game had 24 total TDs and Quinn's had 14 total TD's, so that makes up and then some the TD difference.

If you don't believe me then check it for yourself, and also Smith was 12-0 as a starter and Quinn was 10-2. So I can see why Smith who was a converted WR if I am not mistaken won easily over Quinn.

i think lamarcus coker could win the heisman.
He's only a rs freshman and averages 6.4 ypc which is more than mike hart and darren mcfadden.

Even more impressive considering UT run blocking and how ineffective the other backs were when he went down.

Fulmer made a mistake not playing Coker soon enough. He did it with Coker and Jamal Lewis both. Both of them big impact players that didn't play enough in big games against Florida.

Coker has yet to run well against a good team.

Arian just didn't step it up this year. I was one of the people who thought he'd have a big season. I think he can still be a good back for us, but Coker has definitely impressed me more this year. Next year could be totally different though.
