Heisman Voting

well bradford has better stats but tebows stats were against better defenses. 9 out of the 12 defenses bradford faced ranked 66th or worse.

Of course I am sure tebow cares alot more about winning the NC than the heisman. I normally would not hope folorida wins but this time I will make an exception. I hope they score 60+ on Oklahoma.

And the offenses in the Big XII all were rated very highly, which you can say is a product of great offenses or bad defenses.

Just like the defenses in the SEC were rated very highly, which is a product of bad offenses or good defenses.

We'll find out for sure come bowl season, but it seems like it's more likely that SEC teams have awful offenses.

I second that. The BCS is all about the money and who will draw the bigger TV exposure and crowds. In my opinion Texas got the shaft as well as BAMA, as much as that kills me to say that. It is a pathetic system that is usually determined by a popularity contest.
How did two teams that failed to win their conference get shafted?

There's no way bradford could have done what tebow did in the 4th quarter of the SEC championship against bama's D. The heisman is BS and decided by all politics anyways.

Since 1989, only 2 heisman winners have gone on to have successful careers in the NFL (E. george and C. palmer) 3 are having or had semi-successful careers (Bush ricky williams and woodson).

SEC >>> Big 12

theres a long long list of the better players getting cheated out of the heistman award, which now really has no meaning, its not based anymore on the overall best player
the man that invented the award is rolling over in his grave, well hes done that a few time the last few years anyway.

And you don't know that. For all we know, Bama's D may not be that great. They've padded their stats by playing the Tennessees and Barners of the world.

And the Heisman isn't who's going to have the best NFL career, it's the Most Outstanding College Player

I swear people don't read on this board sometimes. I never said that Tebow deserved to win the award over Bradford, in fact I said that Bradford's accomplishments couldn't be denied. I simply alluded to the fact that he won primarily because the voters that wanted him to win voted Tebow much lower than he deserved in the voting. Every year the finalists at the Heisman Award Show make up 95% + of all the first, second, and third place votes. If you look at Tebow's total tally this year, it's obvious that alot of voters left him out of the top three. Thus he lost despite having the most first place votes. There is no reason ANYONE shouldn't have voted Tebow in the top 3. It just makes me question the validity of these things at all...

Welcome aboard a train that left the station well over a decade ago.

There was a time when the Heisman trophy meant something. "The best player in college football".

Much like the Rose Bowl used to mean something. "The best team in college football".

Times have changed. The Single-Wing no longer rules. Nor does Knute Rockne, the "T" formation, the Rose Bowl, or the Heisman. Progress, at whatever cost.

We use the NFL to validate, or refute, Heisman trophy winners. Why? That's not what the award is about. It's about the best player in college football, right?

Thanks to the media, college presidents, the NCAA ruling body, and the "heel-digging" old school mentality, many things that used to mean something are way out of date.

Including the "BCS". Lord forgive me, but I really think it stands for the "BS College System". What a farce that every other major college sport has a playoff system in place, and we have the "FBS", and "BCS".

Sam Bradford won the Heisman trophy. Maybe he deserved it, and maybe he didn't.

Florida or Oklahoma will be crowned as the BCS National Champion. Maybe they deserve it, and maybe they dont.

My point is that, much like the Heisman voting, we are force-fed our college football "champion". That's crap. Settle it on the field, like every other facet of high school, NAIA, Div. III, II, and FCS program.

Settle it on the field. Then award the Heisman. And the Biletnikoff, and the Thorpe, etc.

Let the winners be determined on the field of play, where the real champions can be found.

Go Vols.

You mean you don't like college football's champion being determined in the same manner as figure skating or gymnastics? Or a high school class president?

Probably not quite, but everyone brings up how great the SEC defenses are in terms of numbers. However, those numbers are inflated by the amount of craptastic offenses in the conference. Outside of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, everyone is mediocre to bad on the offensive side of the ball.

Flroida, Alabama, and probably Georgia and Ole Miss could hang with OK, Texas, or Texas Tech easily as far as offense...because none of there defense's is anything close to any of those teams.

It's been said many of times. When you have 3 quarterbacks up for Heisman in the same conference....You know something is wrong with the defenses there playing.

It doesn't matter. Florida is going to rip Oklahoma. The SEC may not be the best conference, but Big 12 defenses are attrocious, and that includes OU. Florida is by far the best team in the country, and they are better than OU on both sides of the ball.

I still can't believe Colt McCoy did not win. I am glad I did not bet any money on that choice. Anyways, I think the Heisman is overrated at this point in history. ESPN has turned into their Academy Awards.

Bradford seemed pretty humble about accepting the trophy. I think he made reference to Native American Indians in his bloodline.Anyone with any intellect at all knows they've been screwed over enough.

Just keep in mind that the next great offense Florida faces this year will be their first.:eek:lol:

This is why we don't use the Borda count (voting method) for presidential elections.

Just keep in mind that if you made an all star team of all the defenses you played, they would back up the defense of South Carolina.

I'm sure you know better than that but was just at a loss to come up with anything else.:)
