Heisman vs Health

JMO but stats against UT Martin don’t move the needle. If he leads us to an SEC Championship, the trophy is his. Simple as that.
Maybe. There’s still going to be some push to give that award to Stroud regardless. Comparing resumes for this year no one should be ahead of Hooker to this point.

I hope we’re up 28-0 at the end of the first quarter and they pull him then. Milton needs some good reps at game speed just in case.
Realistically we could have 7 first half possessions (like we did against Bama), but 21-0 is more likely your best case 1st quarter score. I'm all for getting lots of on field reps for the 2s and 3s ... develop the team and give the 1s some well deserved rest. There is absolutely no need to run up the score with the 1s ... this is a team game. I want to see Joe, Dylan, etc in the 2nd quarter.

I’m wondering how the equation changes now that Hooker is a real Heisman contender. The Heisman is largely a numbers game, so do we still take him out in a matchup like TN Martin if the win is locked up by halftime, or do we leave him in to pad to the stats? Just curious how some of you think Heupel will approach this. 🏈
If Hooker continues playing down the stretch like he is now, I don't even think the Vols will have to win out for him to be a serious consideration for the Heisman. He's put this team on his shoulders time and again with his leadership and playmaking ability when it has counted the most in tight games and high stakes situations. He refuses to fold under pressure. There's zero doubt that UT's ranked #3 in the AP and in the hunt for the playoff because of that. It seems that no situation is too big for him to handle whatsoever. That's the mark of a Heisman Trophy winner to me....but then again, he is wearing a UT uniform so undoubtedly he will more than likely suffer the same fate as Manning and Majors.

Shouldn't be a problem. Our Oline should be able to easily handle any keg chuggers on Dline that martin has. He will have all day to sit back and pick apart the secondary. I doubt you see and designed run plays for him. I'd be more worried about rb and wr.

Get Hooker out as soon as possible against UT Martin. More important are those key plays on Nationally televised games against Georgia and Alabama defenses. The numbers against Florida, LSU and probably the rest of our SEC schedule to pad stats. He wins all his games he will be in New York. Then even then who knows in a popular vote we know media bias gives Ohio State. I fear no matter what Hooker does Stroud will be handed the trophy off fact he finished bridesmaid to to Bryce Young. Which has a vote btw and BY and Stroud are great friends from California high school days so if he has no shot the politicking behind the scenes by him you can imagine how he will sway votes.

I would be shocked if he plays longer than the first series of the second half. Also don’t see Tillman playing… makes no sense just save him for Kentucky give him more time.

I would not let a Heistman campaign influence my in-game decisions. In the grand scheme, it's just not that important.

I could see letting Tillman knock some rust off and get a little timing work with Hooker.

Maybe on Tillman. I could see them getting him a few snaps to knock the rust off but I doubt it.

Hendon for Heisman 2022
Milton for Heisman 2023
Nico for Heisman 2024

Too much?

My thoughts as well but I would also like to see Tayven Jackson get some reps as well. Almost everyone is looking past Jackson, or forgetting about him entirely, but he is a talented young man and I would like a quaterback competition through the spring and into the fall next year to decide who gets to start in 2023.

Most of the starters including Hooker will play all of the first half. All major programs play their starters the first half even in blow out games. It helps keep them in game shape, and sharp.

The 2nd half will be Milton’s and the 2nd and 3rd strings to get their time

Just to clarify as OP, I mentioned Martin as just an example of a game where a decision may have to be made on how front of mind the Heisman will be, not that there’s anything special about the Martin game, there isn’t. I tend to agree though that the numbers won’t necessarily tell the tale in this Heisman race. If the Vols were to beat the Dawgs, having beaten Bama in that fashion on literally a world stage, I suspect the script would be too irresistible to not give it to HH, numbers be damned. 🏈

Me too and I hope next year allows nico to sit back and grow physically while learning the game. That will help cement a solid future of winning.

Hooker has to look good vs KY and Georgia. Tennessee can only take 1 loss if any.

If those 3 things happen Hooker wins. He’s already had a heisman “moment” with the Bama game.
