Grab a micro to hdmi adapter and just hook it straight to your TV (never tried but should work in theory) . If I were you is just skip the Chromecast

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do but if I understand correctly you should be able to just play videos on your phone and click the chromecast button in the YouTube app ( or whatever app) to stream to the TV. I stream from my iPhone to a chromecast with no issues.

Is this "tethering"?

No it's not

Yeah but I think the issue is they don't have wifi in their home for the chromecast to connect

You're right. After thinking about it I was just coming back to edit my post because my phone and chromecast are connected to the same wifi network, which is different than what the OP is trying to accomplish. My bad.

I'm S.O.L. I tried. I uberly appreciate all you for helping me, the e-Challenged guy.

Freak, do you issue e-Challenged tags for my kind?

One last question, if you have hot spots and/or internet, why do you need or want chromecast type devices? Can't you just stream from the aforementioned?

Thanks all.

You can stream netflix, hulu, youtube, movie apps, to your tv and watch them on there rather than your phone or laptop or whatever.

We have tried every thing that I know.

What is sugarsync? That's what comes up on my SmartTV.

My daughter uses a chromecast because her TV isn't a "smart tv" and it was the cheapest solution for her to stream Netflix.

Fortunately, it is possible to do what you're trying to do without a WiFi connection other than what you are broadcasting from your phone. Unfortunately, to do that, you're going to need to utilize multiple devices.

  1. Broadcast a WiFi signal from your phone (your wireless tethering app)
  2. Connect your Chromecast to that WiFi network
  3. Connect a second device (tablet, non-activated phone, or PC) to that WiFi network
  4. Use the aforementioned tablet/non-activated phone/PC (via your phone's WiFi connection) to cast the desired media to the Chromecast

Interesting. I looked at some reviews for the adapters and it said they used them for that. Which adapter do you have?

Without connecting devices to the Internet you're not really going to be able to use anything "smart"

Sugarsync is a cloud storage service, similar to Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, Copy, Tresorit, Mega, etc. As mentioned earlier, without an internet connection, it's not going to be very useful.

Thanks for all your patience.

Is the Hotspot on the phone, when on, the same as wifi?

pretty much..except its gonna cost you to use your phone as a hotspot. There is also "tethering". You can "tether" a device to your phone and utilize its cell signal for internet but it eats up your data usage.

I don't know where you live, but me and my wife just got a better deal with direct. our tv and internet is about 40$ less now.

If they tell you it's not available in your area. tell them BS, because that's what they were telling us.

Dude. Dont try and stream movies using he hotspot on your phone. The $1000 bill you get next month might send you into cardiac arrest.

Cable internet - good wireless router - WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode for security..you can use a minimum 8 alpha/numeric passphrase = chromecast goodness

Yea. Unless you are grandfathered into an unlimited plan. Do not stream using only your cell signal. You will pay dearly. A good solid internet connection for your home is what you need to steam to Chromecast.

I pay $15/month for the hotspot on an iPhone. It's unlimited, but it slows down by about 75% around the 5th day of the monthly billing cycle. VirginMobileUSA.com

That's another ignorance of mine gone. I thought they would only work with a smart Tv.
