Fortunately, it is possible to do what you're trying to do without a WiFi connection other than what you are broadcasting from your phone. Unfortunately, to do that, you're going to need to utilize multiple devices.

  1. Broadcast a WiFi signal from your phone (your wireless tethering app)
  2. Connect your Chromecast to that WiFi network
  3. Connect a second device (tablet, non-activated phone, or PC) to that WiFi network
  4. Use the aforementioned tablet/non-activated phone/PC (via your phone's WiFi connection) to cast the desired media to the Chromecast
Man, I feel ignorant again. Lol
I think I know what your getting at. The wife and I are going to try this tomorrow. Thanks

Interesting. I looked at some reviews for the adapters and it said they used them for that. Which adapter do you have?

I plugged the cord provided with my phone to a USB on the TV. This is another thing I'm going to try again on Saturday.

Without connecting devices to the Internet you're not really going to be able to use anything "smart"

Yeah, I was hoping to get Internet from somewhere. If all else fails, ATT offered us a hot spot for $20 a month. Is that a decent price to pay?

Sugarsync is a cloud storage service, similar to Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, Copy, Tresorit, Mega, etc. As mentioned earlier, without an internet connection, it's not going to be very useful.

I just Googled and found that out. My TV came with it.

I don't know where you live, but me and my wife just got a better deal with direct. our tv and internet is about 40$ less now.

If they tell you it's not available in your area. tell them BS, because that's what they were telling us.

I have been told the same by Direct and Dish. Xfinity said the same, ad I told the my neighbors on both sides and the business across the street have it. All 3 are within a thousing feet of me.

If your neighbors have wifi, why can't you?

Got me. I believe the Xfinity cable runs on the same poles as the phone lines, which have a right of way across my property. And guess who owns the only bridge access to approximately a 1 mile stretch of there lines - ME!

I need to use this as leverage. Ha, ha.

Just be careful with the amount of data being used. I sometimes forget that not everyone else is grandfathered into an unlimited data plan.

If you do not have unlimited (or very large) data plan, you would be better served getting cable/DSL internet so that you do not run up your bill due to data overages.
