VOLS are still number but I’m still gonna root for the TitansYou probably wouldn’t if you had heard the all the blustering in Nashville about how the Titans were gonna own the state by carving off TN Vol fans. They chose the name Tn instead of Nashville for just that reason. Counted on Vol fans to follow Tn name because they were used to following the TN name. Yet, when the Vols spent nearly 2 decades as a dumpster fire the titans made no gains in usurping the fanbase. Vols still and always will be number 1. I never have liked them respected or feared the titans and my best Sundays are when my Colts win and titans lose. Second best Sunday is when titans still lose.

Lived in the Nashville area 45 years. Hated it when Bud Adams conned Nashville into bringing his Oilers here by taking tax dollars to finance his greed & pet project. We're STILL being conned by his daughter, her minions, etc. The product is lousy & now the prospect of a mega-millions new stadium to exhibit WHAT? Even more crappy football. You can say that but the feeling in the organization was they could live off the back of the Vols by also using TN in the name instead of Nashville, since not everyone loves Nashville. I thought it was a brilliant move, but also thought it sneaky. I understood trying to build a brand so why not piggyback on a brand already built. Fortunately for all of us during the downtime of TN Vols the titans sucked and were unable to become what they aspired to be. That makes us happy. By the way, the titans lobbied hard the politicians to get that stadium. Some campaign funds got fat.Nope.
The main reason they are named the Tennessee Titans and not the Nashville Titans is because on the approval to use state funds by the legislature to build their stadium the team must be named "Tennessee" and not "Nashville". The marketing reason why they are Tennessee and not Nashville is they wanted to appeal to the state and specifically had Memphis in mind. Given Memphis had been trying for an NFL team for years and were spurned and now Nashville just up and gets one, they wanted to be Tennessee to try to appeal to that market and we know how that went.
Had all of jack squat to do with "carving off TN Vol fans" but nothing stops a good victim narrative around here.
No kidding. I was afraid my Colts would do another stupid pick and take Levis, even though our pick Richardson has been underwhelming. Vols remember how Richardson was almost unstoppable against us with over 540 total yards while Levis mustered 97. Pretty fair comparison I thought.Just a terrible pick that most fans knew would fail. Levis didn’t really play well his senior year at Kentucky. I always thought he was overrated in college to tell you the truth. Not that he wasn’t a pretty good quarterback but not the star folks tried to make him out to be. Even taking into account that some say he didn’t have a good O line his senior year, even taking that into account Hooker out played and out performed Levis all day long. But the Titans were just determined to go with Levis despite what had played out on the field in college for all too see. GBO

Been a long time since they came in, those of us spending time in Nashville during all that heard it all the time. After awhile when they failed they changed the narrative. Best day ever for me was when they came up short of a td trying to tie in the SB. I was ina room with a bunch of Titan fans who had constantly told me I needed to get onboard and be a fan before they won numerous SB games. I didn’t of course and they haven’t come close. Happy times.First I’ve ever heard.

Right!!! It was the Memphis thing.Nope.

Doesn’t matter now, their plan to be THE team in Tn failed miserably. I get joy knowing the plan and knowing it didn’t happen. By the way you do know titans fans only embrace Houston if they are trying to say the franchise won a championship. The Oilers actually did, unlike the titans, which is a great thing. I hate to think how insufferable titans would be if they actually had a title.Considering you have a really hate boner for the Titans, I'm calling BS on all your supposed "insider" information. They didn't change the narrative, they didnt' approve the funding for the stadium until they agreed to be "Tennessee". So your narrative makes no sense.
The last sentence.Nope.

Come on, man. This is VN--don't let truth impede a good storyline.Nope.

The Titans aren't "avoiding" Tennessee players, they've drafted tons of them.![]()
No one said that. There's a difference between ONLY drafting Tennessee players and AVOIDING Tennessee players. And there IS a reason to prioritize a specific school. The reason is because IT"S IN TENNESSEE which is where the people who's money they want live. It might behoove them to take advantage of that now and then.
