Herbie Said Were Best 1 Loss Team Left

If SC does not turn the ball over, that will be a closer game than people think.

A lot of ifs our way make it a blow out. If we aren't offsides on the muffed punt. If Meach doesn't fumble the punt. If Foster catches the 3rd down pass. If Ainge puts a bit more air on the pass to Meach....

How likely is any SEC team to get an at large BCS bid? There are 3 openings and ND has pretty much sewed one up. If Boise State finishes in the top 12 , I think the BCS system has to give them one. And I suspect the loser of the Game of the Decade (OSU vs. Michigan) will get the 3rd one unless someone really gets beat badly.

If Boise wins out, and the ACC ends up with a 1-loss champion, then Boise needs only to be ranked ahead of that champion, and fall in the top 16 to get an at-large.

If Boise can't finish ahead of a BCS Conference champion, they must finish in top 12.

6 conference champions: Big 10, Big East, Big 12, SEC, Pac-10, ACC.

5 Bowls, 10 spots: Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, NCG.

That leaves 4 at-larges, right? Am I missing something, or did somebody give the MEAC an automatic bid?

Boise St still has games against SDSU and Nevada, who both have winning records. I have no idea what that means.

It is a shame that ND could go to LA, get beat by 5 touchdowns, and still take up a BCS slot, but I am afraid that exactly that will happen, even if the Trojans blow them out. C'est la BCS.

Notre Dame isn't even in possition to get an automatic bid right now. If they lose (at all, but especially by 5 TD's) there is NO WAY they make the BCS.

Notre Dame gets an automatic bid IF they finish in the Top 8 of the BCS.

I wasn't talking about an automatic bid. I was talking about a non-automatic bid. And you can bet that if, say, the orange bowl is stuck with some no-name (Wake Forest?,) they will gobble up the Irish, even with 2 blow-out losses, before you can say, "Stop stealing my lucky charms."

There are 10 spots.

6 Spots are conference champions.

One spot will more than likely go to Boise because of the ACC Champs' ranking.

That leaves three. I almost guarentee a second SEC school being in there.

That leaves two. I would almost guarentee that the Mich-OSU loser gets in.

That leaves one.

IF USC beats ND and if Cal wins out, or even if Cal loses to USC, I would think they would take the loser of the Cal-USC game

OR

If Rutgers can split the Louisville and West Virginia game, I think they take an 11-1 Rutgers.

Without a lot of losses by other top teams, I don't see a two loss ND team making it into the BCS unless they lose a CLOSE one to USC.

No bowl is going to take a two loss Cal team over a similarly situated Notre dame team. That would be the definition of financial idiocy.

And no matter how good the story feels, I just don't see anybody taking a 1 loss Rutgers over a 2 loss ND, either.

Not a chance they pass over a one loss Rutgers AND a two loss Cal that would have lost earlier and Notre Dame would more than likely drop BELOW Cal with a blow-out loss. Not to mention they would probably be behind the Louisville-West Virginia loser IF that loser only had one loss.

I know you guys think Notre Dame is the cat's meow, but they just don't hold THAT much stroke.

All that being said, if they lose a close one to USC, it wouldn't shock me to see them sneak in.

As soon as one of the Big 3 in the Big East loses, they will plummet in the polls. The only chance for any of those teams is to remain undefeated.

I actually don't think Notre Dame is that good. Dangerous offense, no defense, and some fortunate breaks along the way. But their fan base, both in attendance and on TV, make them the #1 choice for any bowl that has an excuse to take them.

With 4 BCS at-large spots (maybe 3, depending on Boise St,) somebody is going to take Notre Dame unless there is a major catastophe between now and selection day, and a loss to USC just isn't major enough.

I meant that you all think that they are a big draw and that the media overly loves them.

While I agree in some cases, there is no way that a ND team that would fall down to the lower teens after that late of a loss would make a BCS bowl.

I wouldn't care if Notre Dame dropped football tomorrow. However, the idea that any bowl would take Rutgers or Cal over the Irish is laughable. Bowls are in the business of making money. Cal and Rutgers both have fan bases that could fit in a thimble. Also, because of those minute fan bases, they are lousy TV draws. I seriously doubt any of the bowls want to explain the TV rating that having either of those teams in their game would produce the next time they have to negotiate TV rights. Like it or not, Notre Dame is college football's version of an ATM. Any bowl that passes on them deserves to go out of business for rank stupidity.

bless your heart.Did you come to troll while most of the Volnation has gone to bed?

I guess you can see it that way, that or just wasn't tired and saw a forum gone wrong. But i am not gonna say much more, i think our game will be tough.
