Kirk Herbstreit explains what gives the Tennessee Vols the edge over the Georgia Bulldogs

He simply states the VOLS have the edge in a head to head matchup because of Hendon Hooker.

It seems Herbstreit is giving some respect this week.
I know it won't last, but I think he is correct.
If we continue to protect HH, the ceiling for this team is the Playoffs and a Natty.
If UGA or another team can mount a very effective pass rush against us, it brings us down a level.

Kiss of death if there ever was one.

Bob,Pat and Jeff aren't homers they try to build up Tennessee's opponents at every opportunity.
Matter of opinion I guess. There's nothing wrong with it. The Arkansas guys are worse homers for sure, but imo our guys are pretty par for the course hometown radio guys who serve up a healthy dose of homerism.

He’s tried saying we won’t win, hoping that we would falter.
Now he’s saying we’ll win in hopes we’ll take the rat poison.
No I didn’t listen ti him. No I could care less what his opinion is.

Herbie is also the dooosh who picked the Gators & Gumps over TN.
The Vols will handle "bidness" against the Mildcats and Between The Hedges.....its great to be Tennessee Vol....

Absolutely zero emotion by Bob and Pat. I think Bob retires from calling football games following the season and Pat retires completely. I could see Jeff being with the next Tennessee play by play guy. I think Bob will be strictly Tennessee basketball starting Fall 2023.
I hope you are a prognosticator extraordinaire!

Herbie lately always balances the panel. You can't have a "Game of the Week" with every picker going the same way. Who knows what he really thinks. But again he's not paid to think, he's there to make the show work. An entire panel picking the 🍊 makes poor TV. As the hidden glue for the show, he gets that better than anybody.

Yeah, that makes sense. I’ve never disliked him myself, but he does get a lot of criticism. Same for Finebaum. I don’t really feel strongly for or against them. Just dudes doing a job.

I think I may be able to explain the sudden ESPN/Herbie shift in attitude towards Tennessee Football. I will begin with Kirk. This one is pretty easy. He now lives in Nashville. If he keeps running his mouth with the "I hate the Vols" trash, someone will more than likely rearrange his face at the grocery store. ESPN will be taking over the contract from CBS next year (YAY! No more Gary Danielson!). It behooves them to pump up all the teams in the SEC now. I think any moron can see the what a fabulous job CJH is doing and recognize Tennessee is up and looks only to improve in the years to come. I think in the future ESPN will be limited to picking on only the most severe dumpster fires, such as Auburn.

I just hope the successors to Bob and Pat at big time Tennessee homers instead of announcers acting like they're calling a National TV game.
It depends on the degree of homerism. I would not want anything resembling the bozos who do radio for Georgia, for example. Alabama’s on the other hand are big homers but still pretty polished and professional.

Same here. Every week I meet with seven other retired guys who are college football fans and represent different schools from across the country (Washington, Ole Miss, Miss St, UT, OK, Utah, Penn St and CU). I brought this subject up and only one guy had anything negative to say about a sportscaster. That was Gary Danielson but the others like him and one even said he was his favorite.
Personally I like Herbstreit and just consider Finebaum an entertainer.
Maybe it's a generational thing.

Even with our reemergence into the elite level of CFB VOL fans have been kicked in the nards enough to realize anything can happen and every game is important. It seems the current roster is extremely good on focusing on one game at a time. This saturday is the most important game of the season. LAst Saturday UT Martin was until the clock hit 00:00. UGa will be important after KY has been handled.
Kirk will never be important to VOLS. Many years of shade can't be fixed with some half hearted compliments

I'm done with Herbie. I guess he's tired of eating crow over past few weeks and finally seen the light with his picks.
