Here is why the offense was terrible.

Losing Small definitely hurt us--we obviously are thin at running back. Anyone heard what his status is? Shoulder injury of some kind--let's hope not too serious.

We screen to the outside, but we definitely rarely if ever screen to RBs. Not sure if that’s a philosophy or a Personnel thing.

Small and Wright have a combined 27 receptions over nearly 2 seasons now under Heupel.

I like both those guys as they run hard but I personally think there needs to be significant upgrades at the position.

The one thing I would have thought Heupel may have done more of in the 2nd half was putting Fant as a RB to get some more blocking help. GA came out with their hair on fire with the blitzes in the second half.

I thought all along that voting Tennessee no. 1 was ridiculous. This is the best Tennessee team in over twenty years, but the simple fact is that the roster doesn't match up to Georgia, or OSU, or Bama, or Clemson, or Michigan. I think it's headed in the right direction, but it's not there yet.

This is all on Heupel. He knew this UGA defense would be aggressive and didn’t scheme in any plan to make them pay. Here are three successive screen shots. The tailback is doing nothing. He’s blocking, but he’s not in any route for an escape valve. If they had the TB scrape off to the right, look at the amount of green grass. It’s absurd. Never, not once, was UGA made to pay for their over aggressive play. This should have been schemed into the game plan.

You got this, man!

dont misunderstand me on this , #1 most importantly we got out played they were the better team. and not that they needed help but they damn sure got help from the refs all game ,and no im not saying the refs are why we lost but it did hurt us,they were slow as sh*t spotting the ball even before the rain, they held the ball and let them sub even when we didnt, and the way i understand it if the ball is in the air its pi not def holding ,at least 2 of those should have been 15 yarders, and 1 or 2 of the false starts i didnt see could have been tb , or wr i didnt see it on the line ,sorry for the rant but damn let the boys play ,and decide the game ,hopefully this lights a fire under our ass for the coming weeks ,GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree 100% on the Refs….I was pissed pretty much the whole game over the slow playing the game by the Refs. I also noticed at least one call being called wrong on interference. Slow playing the game definitely hurt our offense. Then the one time we got them truly out of position Kirby calls timeout. You factor in the two over throws that would’ve been TD’s and whatever may possibly happened if Kirby hadn’t called timeout. Who knows what the outcome could’ve been. No there not better than what Tennessee was capable of doing last night. They just look intimidating on the field due to the recruiting classes stuck in everyone’s mind. We matched well against them….I want you to think about this one real good…If they are such the all mighty powerful team …Then why was the that crowd sooooooo loud during the whole game. That’s because they feared us ! They were worried about this game the same way that we felt. 1)Hyatt getting hurt twice and 2)Tillman getting hurt also hurt our offense and (two over throws) TD’s. That crazy (punt) that nailed us at the one. I also agree with the guy ranting so much about the dump offs to the running back. Just one or two of those would’ve helped out. They’ll be some adjustments made if we get the chance to play them again in the playoffs. I have a pretty good feeling we make the playoffs as the number (4) team. If so we play them as 1 vs 4 in the playoffs on a NEUTRAL SITE !

You can't claim stalking when you are actively involved in arguing with thr vast majority of posters who are pointing out the flaws of your argument. You state that Heupel had a bad game plan, but refuse to accept the fact that Smart had a better one. We got smacked in the face and could not find a way to overcome against a superior team. I didn't create a thread to bash you, just responded to your many posts defending your extremely minority stance. The stop posting argument could easily be applied to you when this occurs.
Screens should be part of the offensive scheme and I agree they may have helped in this game.

They would definitely have helped, but the pressure up the middle kept us in max protect almost all game. We have used screens all year. Keeping the TE and RB in to block made that difficult. Just an off game all the way around.

of you want to discuss the game, let me know. If you want to call people names, I’m out. I guess that’s the theme around here.
You posted earlier in the week why you pretty much expect to lose, about years of stacking 5 stars by UGA and a few more things
And then when they do, as evidently you thought they would,
You say it’s all on Huepel!!
If that’s not trolling I don’t know what is!

You were 100% correct in your first post and yes UGA is loaded and should of beaten UT.
So that means you’re second post is pure
Troll BS!

Based on the strength of schedule and wins so far the playoff #1 ranking was deserved. But it was still largely meaningless. Just like the playoff rankings this week will be meaningless. Too many games to play.

Expecting to lose and the offense being terrible are two different things. Yes, we could have played well offensively and still lost. NOT THE POINT. The title of the post isn’t “fire Heupel,” or “why we lost.”

It’s funny, Tim Irwin opened this morning with a list of criticisms many of which mirrored my own comments.

The preparation, game plan, lack of adjustment, is most certainly on Heupel. Just as is all the credit for getting us where we are now. You can hold both of those positions as a fan.

I just don’t understand this all or nothing reaction. The coaching Last night deserved criticism. The accomplishments of this season deserve praise. Neither of those are zero sum.

When people were on here this week stating we’d put 50 on UGA and beat them by multiple scores, I didn’t personally attack them. In fact, I didn’t say anything. I didn’t agree and kept scrolling.

The amount of fratricide on this forum is alarming. I expect it on Twitter, but wrongly assumed this was where family could have their minor disagreements and not kill each other. Boy was I wrong.

If piling on me makes you feel better for the slop we saw on offense last night, so be it.

We lost because we were on the road against a team with a higher talent level who has been in these big games before and responded. You really think the coaches didn’t “scheme” correctly or adjust? QB didn’t play well after the interception. This stuff is ridiculous. Give us a neutral field rematch against UGA and it’s a better game. And let’s keep our coach for a little while longer 🙄

Is anyone talking about firing Heupel? I have criticized him yesterday for some decision making but still believe he should win COY. Heupel could of made some adjustments to make the game closer. One is Not dropping Hooker back about 5 yards in the pocket. One is telling Hooker not to take a sack and throw it away which has been a problem to some degree all year. For all the Kirby Smart haters on here the son-of a gun is a good coach and good recruiter and his track record speaks for itself. Same thing goes for Kelly at LSU. He is certainly a better coach than many here on VN give him credit for.

Edit: We are still in a good position to make the CFP. Maybe we meet Georgia again at a neutral site and the outcome will be different.

You got some big hands.

This right here. We gave up all those sacks against the worst sacking team in the SEC
Yes. Most of the sacks were not huge losses in yardage. That was basically what I was pointing out I the original post. Georgia wasn’t simply getting pressure, they were consistently brining 6 guys. Despite what so many here think, you can play call to make a defense pay for this kind of rush. Hell, we’ve seen it used against us as our defense is one of the most aggressive out there.

What I saw was glaring in how Hooker kept standing shallow in the pocket, and we never popped a back into the flat for a dump off route. Would it have won the game? No, but I think there were some very clear things we could have done differently. In the case of the play I posted, Wright ends up blocking no one, and doesn’t even have the instinct to put himself out there in the flat to give Hooker a safety valve. UGA had no one to cover him, and it was apparent that they weren’t concerned about UT using that in their arsenal.
