Here is why the offense was terrible.

UGA has been stockpiling 5 stars for years. This is really the first time they’ve had to get up for a game this year. Our boys have expended a ton of effort and emotion and produced some amazing results. it’s hard to imagine that doesn’t put some miles on the odometer. Im blown away by the results, but I can’t help but believe that eventually the realty of the rosters will show. I’ve been wrong about this team more than I’ve been right, so here is hoping I’m wrong again.
This is all on Heupel. He knew this UGA defense would be aggressive and didn’t scheme in any plan to make them pay. Here are three successive screen shots. The tailback is doing nothing. He’s blocking, but he’s not in any route for an escape valve. If they had the TB scrape off to the right, look at the amount of green grass. It’s absurd. Never, not once, was UGA made to pay for their over aggressive play. This should have been schemed into the game plan.
Which is it troll?
The 5* they been stacking for years
Or
Heupel ?

Just a bad game and it’s on everyone involved starting with the coaches to the players.

Playing between the hedges is overrated. Not that loud and definitely not intimidating. It’s nothing like playing in Neyland. Vols will be just fine in Athens!

He was wrong and owned it after the game. Something a lot of posters on here are never willing to do.

Personally thought the whole thing was stupid. What was he supposed to say...Sanford is the greatest and loudest stadium in history and the Vols don't stand a chance ?

Or just don't say anything at all. That is what he should have said.

I do think Hooker lost some of his pocket presence today. After a few rushes and a sack or two, you gotta adjust as a QB, especially on third down when you know the house is coming. Move the pocket or get your back out in the flat or get rid of ball or something. He took way too many sacks. I will give him for flushing at times though.

Heupel could have made a few adjustments but noone is scheming around the offensive line getting their asses handed to them the entire second half and the wide receivers getting smothered all game.
Yes!!!! Thank you. At least one Fing person sees the big picture. You can’t scheme around getting dominated on the line. Pocket was crap all night even when he didn’t get sacked. Georgia DBs were physical you could tell they didn’t give a damn if they got called for an occasional holding or PI they wanted to make the WRs uncomfortable and sack Hooker a few times and see how he reacted mentally.

Not sure how much effect it had on the game, but I noticed some differences:

Offense was a bit different. I didn't see the pre-set motion used in other games to identify and confuse coverage.

Return game took the day off. Previous games we had field position help from it; this game we chose not to return one kick or punt.

I didn’t expect to win the game. I didn’t expect us to look this bad. Very simple schematic things that were blatantly obvious to anyone with any football acumen.
I'm in total agreement. Quick dump-off passes to a back or screen pass to a back would take away at least 1 blitzing LBer. CJH must not trust Wright as a receiver. UT did not adjust to slow down UGA's pass rush. This loss is mostly on the coaches, imo.

I love Josh but where is the screen game?

I made this point before this game.

It slows blitzes.
That's the point the OP was trying to make and I think J.Small got injured early and never returned. I don't think CJH or CAG trust J.Wright catching passes in the flat, Wright isn't a good blocker either. Hopefully we have good receiving backs in our future with Sampson and Williams. A Kamara-type back would have been effective in this game imo.

I suspect any attempted “adjustments” would have yielded same results. Georgia was better than our guy at every interaction. Simply better one on one at every position on every play. All they have to do is play man to man across all 11 players and that neutralizes any schemes. Play ten times Georgia probably wins all 10, unless they are just bored one day.

I have a question about the way Hooker stands in the pocket. The announcers brought it up and I have thought this too. He never drops back but rather stands where he took the snap. While other QBs drop back a few yards. Is this part of our offense?

We live and die by our aggressive play and if Hooker doesn’t over throw a few this is a different game. However, I wish he would be less aggressive on 4th and short calls and live to play another down.

This season to me is still a lot better than I had hoped for as long as we don’t drop any of our remaining games.

It wasn’t a good game for Heupel. Case closed. Defend him all you want. When he does good , praise him. When he does bad , point it out.
UT needs a receiving back to get out in the flat and at least take away a blitzing LBer. Move Fant to the backfield for additional blocking/pass catching. UGA knew pregame that UT don't throw screen passes and simply ignored it by sending their LBers straight to Hooker. The point is making a LBer respect the possibity that a running back can catch passes in the flat and burn defenses when they fail to account for it. Just my humble opinion.

If only you would have sent CJH a text to let him know what all he was doing wrong and how to correct it we would have won the game. So I say the loss is on you ALLVOLS(^ for not making that call. I see you as the head coach of Tennessee in the future.

The OL won't enjoy the film review....especially Crawford. Having said that, I won't be at all surprised if Heupel doesn't even let the team watch it. Coaches will certainly break it down, but I think Heupel will just want to get this one behind us as quickly as possible especially if these crucial games tonight go our way.
Well the games went our way with Bama and Clemson falling and eventually OSU/Mich going to have a loss. We could sneak in with good play and just 1 loss.

I wasn’t confident even if the rosters were more equal. Perfect storm weighing against the Vols-playing the defending National champs in Athens and UT jumped them in the playoff rankings the week before. Motivation #1. Plus UGAs defense listened all week how UTs offense was unstoppable. Motivation #2. The money on the game was moving strongly towards UGA as the line went from 7.5-8 early Friday to 9.5 Saturday morning. Good news is that UT still in the playoff hunt with BAMA and Clemson losing .

And Bennett made three long passes that laid right in there. Game
Those best passes Bennet made all year. He had 1 WR wide open. But there was 2 more that led to TD’s that our guy was perfectly covered but it was dropped in a bucket at 50 yards. If either one of
The balls are couple inches off they are incompletions. Also they had that rediclous 75 yard punt downed at the goal line that was a game changer at the time.
