Heupel Deserves Better Than This

I agree. I think you've written Heupel and staff off too soon. But no coach needs 5 years to prove they can coach. That "proof" this year could be NOT getting blown out by multiple opponents or having multiple bad losses. That would not be enough... he'll need to keep doing things to prove himself and at a higher level. But for now just field a competitive football team. A team that doesn't lay down. A team that scores some points and doesn't quit.

I think 6-8 wins with the current roster against this schedule is reasonable. But what if they win 5 and push UF, UGA, and Bama? That might be a good enough sign of coaching.

How have I written him off? He hasn't coached a game yet. I just don't buy into the hype people are trying to build around his offensive scheme since he hasn't fielded a team at UT yet.

He may not deserve it but he knew what he was signing up for. I applaud him for taking on the challenge but can’t feel sorry for someone whenever they willingly go into a situation such as ours.

You seem pretty negative about him to me.

Nothing is proven until it is proven. His survival completely depends on how many points he can score with the talent he has now. I suspect any wins they get this year will be primarily because they won a track meet.

If things aren’t significantly better by 2023 in terms of wins and recruiting , time to move on.
😂 if we're significantly better by 2023 we definitely hired the right guy no doubt. I believe our offense will be way better not hard to improve what we just had. Defensively and depth were in trouble I believe. I think we'll get to 8-5 9-4 like butch but if we don't beat a georgia or a Florida by year 3 or 4 the fire and pitch forks will be out by 23' 24' season.

I think Heupel is going to pleasantly surprise a lot of people in year one....even among all the troubles.
I hope your right. Our fan base needs something to be happy about. We've had enough bad luck to last a lifetime. We need to strike fear into our opponents again.

We paid $3.5M to UCF, I think, already for Heupel. If he's termed before the end of 2025, we'll owe 75% of what's left on the 6yr (likely 7yr, with sanctions) contract which would kick in another $10M +/-, at least. It's only 50% if we keep him into 2026. That's not including whatever staff we'd inevitably pay off also.

How long can we continue to consistently pay coaches $10M+ NOT to coach at UT and not look like the program is radioactive?

New coach knows this is a short term gig.
He will leave messes for the next New Coach.
Since HCPF was fired, the four HCs have averaged a 3 year term .The tenure of New Coach will not move this average very much.
Phil is that you? We know youre still pissed but go spend the millions you stole from the University and fade away.

Can't help myself, waiting for a poster to claim it was Guarantano who shot him. Was aiming for the heart. Part of the territory in coaching these days. I had someone explain to me how much pot the players had in the latest UTPD bust. It came out to a quarter of an ounce. I joked I have been to people's homes that you could have vacuumed that much from their living room carpet. All fun and games til somebody gets shot I suppose. Heupel will end up being Wyatt Earp or the guy who got killed after they fired Earp in Kansas.
Between them, the three whose blotter reports were made public = 24 grams (8+9+7). That's about .85 ounces. Or enough for about 50 joints.

Throw in the last, underage, person, and the total is probably right around an ounce. So 60 joints.

It's not Scarface volume, but it's more than a joint or two's worth.

1. Depleted recruit class.

2. Cloud of NCAA investigation hanging over program.

3. Beasley allegations.

4. Brandon Davis situation.

Heupel is blameless. He did nothing to cause any of this. He is above all this.

Yet, he has to deal with all of this.

Unfair, IMHO.

His paycheck says otherwise. I agree, he has an uphill battle.. but, he’s being paid hansomely for it.

Better bring their pocketbooks as well as their expectations.

Most of these issues being present before his hiring is exactly why we had to hire him as head coach at the last second after all the better coaches said "hell no"

This is also why a rookie SEC coach got a 6/7yr deal at UT...... nobody with a pedigree was willing to risk their career, the fan base was getting restless for a hire, and tossing money at even other unproven talent failed.

Heupel definitely did the right thing for his family by getting as long a deal as he could AND a nice buyout percentage if the UT fan base tries to bury him quickly. I'm not going to cry for him if he and his staff take a buyout in 3 years.

I will be sad for UT because we'll be "that school where you can cash in, even if you're a relative nobody in coaching" and that will not be a good thing for the program.

Time will tell who’s “better”. Book hasn’t been written. Currently Franklin is a proven commodity but Elliott sure as hell isn’t.

Come to east tn then.. plenty of places
Bunch of city road hunters asked to hunt turkey on my ridge.
They swore the saw a large flock.
I told them there were none here but to knock themselves out.
Next morning one of the dumb asses shot a buzzard.
I told them the game wardens would like to see such a rare turkey and gave them a telephone number. Said they had a deep fryer and were going to eat it. I told them I heard they were good with mustard. I am as pro- second amendment as anyone. But this is a good example of men who should not be allowed firearms.

Average leaders look at such things as excuses why they didn't succeed. Great leaders--and I think Josh Heupel may be one--look at them as exciting challenges to navigate, making their success all the sweeter because it came on the other side of adversity. I don't think CJH feels he "deserves better." I think he feels honored to be asked to captain the ship in the time of tempest. We don't need to pity this man; we need to admire him for taking the helm.

You must be an expert. I am not. If it was stolen from a single guys stash, I would be willing to bet he is a businessman.. I was basically shocked no one had made a JG joke over the guy getting shot in the foot/leg. Looks like the fanbase has moved on, good for us.

Only thing I'm an expert at in that post is googling, heh. And a bit of math. ;)
