Heupel Doubts or No?

I’m very concerned that a supposedly offensive minded coach cannot see the problem in his offense at the main position. It’s cool to run all over people but when you can’t you gotta realize the QB has to be a factor. Why in the world would he not see this. He didn’t see it in practice with hooker vs milton.

Very confused at this point. I still think we are headed up and I trust him. But he has got to get a better defense as well. Or go back to scoring every drive. Either or you need a better QB to do that or DC. Facts.

Before the season and after the orange bowl I was hyped Milton turned the corner. But after this season you see he is still throwing to hard, no touch, can’t read defenses, can’t scramble when needed, and in clutch positions just panics. I really wanted it to be different.

Go Vols.

Has the regression this season caused you to have any doubts about Heupel and his future? In my case, the answer is yes, sort of. I did not think we would see 3 disheartening losses in year 3 of this staff but here we are. I am NOT calling for Heupel's head but I wonder if I'm alone in hearing a little voice in my head that says "this may not be what we thought it was going to be." I hope I'm wrong but I have some experience with the little voice. I have learned to not ingore it.
100% yes. Lest we forget, Hooker only became our QB because Milton got hurt. I genuinely wonder now if Huepel would have had the humility (or at least the football IQ) to bench Milton in ‘21 and let Hooker take the reins if that injury hadn’t forced him to. He seems unable or unwilling to make adjustments necessary to put the best product on the field.

My biggest concern is his lack of acknowledgment of a problem. Milton is a problem and he has been steadfast to a fault in standing behind him. If he refuses to correct a problem or do anything to rectify it, then what does the future hold?

I love his system. I love what he’s done for the program. But my issue is he refuses to make changes or acknowledge that the QB play is bringing the team to its knees. That’s not to say we don’t have other issues, but it’s the most obvious and readily noticeable issue on the field.
Agree. He needs to start sharing what CHANGES he is going to start making - staff, schemes, players, whatever. He’s not giving anyone confidence that he knows what he’s doing.

For sure doubts. Lost at Florida against an obviously inferior team. Blew a 1st half lead at Bama. Played uninspired at Missouri. Got schooled by GA. Only has one win when trailing at halftime. All reasons to be truly concerned.

This is about to be tied for our 2nd best season in 15 years. Y'all are hilarious. Yeah Heupel sucks let's fire him and let Jimmy Haslam hire Schiano for us
Who the hell is saying fire Heupel? I’m extremely critical of the way the season is playing out and the issues we are seeing, many of which were predictable early on. But to even suggest firing Heupel at this stage is ridiculous. Maybe the guy can make some changes and realize his approach to certain facets of the game is killing his chances. But to fire him? Ridiculous,

Im beginning to wonder if the SEC defensive coordinators have figured out how to defend Josh's offense along with not having good quarterback play. We definitely need an upgrade at Defensive Coordinator ourselves.
I think DCs have realized that if we can't go fast, we struggle on O. Our offense relies on defensive miscommunication if we don't have a Hendon at qb.

The most alarming thing is the lack of competitiveness and physicality that we display on both sides. In the end, to me, football comes down to his tougher especially if your team is not as fast or big. We have been soft for years.

Some just don’t see the big picture. We know what happened the past 15 yrs. At some point, you have find someone ( Coach, CEO in business world, etc) to correct the issue and get back to where you want to be. In our case, Volnation wants to win most games and compete against elite teams. We’ve been blown out four games this yr- four!

And the question was “is anyone concerned?” Not, let’s fire him.

Some of our fans are dumb. We’re way ahead of where I thought we would be as a program when he was hired. He basically was down an entire class of talent on the roster when he came and took over. Hooker, Hyatt, Tillman, Velus, Bru all those guys did little to nothing before Heupel as well.

Yup. Let’s just clap our hands on the sideline and keep working like heck. We are a lower tier program. Let’s just have fun and not worry about having any pride or challenging ourselves to get better. Trophies for everyone.

I would love to know why our team isn’t prepared weekly, why we can’t seem to have our freshmen ready to play as our competition does weekly. I’d love to know how we practice because whatever it is we do it’s not working. Why is it the receivers can’t get open against ANYBODY true freshmen or 5th yr senior? He’s recruiting well but why do we not have any linebackers that can play in the SEC? We have lineman that can run down the field with speed but block subpar? Not gonna mention the QB situation as we all know the answer. I’d like to know how our competitors have such great success with their recruits while it will take ours 4yrs to reach potential. The answers to these questions appears to be coaching……

I might have a little bit of doubt now. The issue is that we will not get answers to our questions or concerns to ease the doubt. That would like entail being hard on players in public and thus throwing the team under the bus. CJH will simply not do that. It is not who he is.

I can't help thinking he knew what he had this year and tried to Lane Kiffin it (reference to the Florida game strategy).

Again I too have many questions. We will just have to see how the next few years play out to get our answers. People will not like it, but that is how this works. People will make theories and we will see which ones are right in time.
