Stop using scholarship reductions as an excuse for what was a mediocre roster in year 4 and will likely be even worse going into year 5. Being short 2-3 scholarship players does little to nothing to your 2 deep talent. Above average signing classes and having half of the higher ranked players not meeting expectations and batting .500 in the portal and damn near striking out on the OL and WRs is the problemFor a program that averaged 6 wins per year the 13 years before him.
Meanwhile, he’s doing this with less scholarships than his predecessors & opponents (10+ his first 2 years, 2 each year now) and with heavy NcAA penalty rumors during his first 3 yrs.
Everybody needs to stop with characterization of his program. He’s been limited ever since day 1.
You can’t fire the guy. He’s done too much for the program and was likely the only coach in the country at the time that was willing to take the job. About the only thing Danny White can do is ask him what he needs to take the team to the next level. Then do everything in his power to get however much money it takes to make those things possible. If they haven’t at least won a conference championship or won a playoff game by the time he goes into the final year of his contract Danny has to let him know he’s coaching for his job that season. He currently would have 4 more years to reach that goal and I don’t think those are unreasonable expectations to setFahr Heupel!?!?!
Damn man I just shake my head at some of our fans. It’s like people don’t realize how far he’s brought us in a short time.
It’s fans like you that are delusional. You act like facts are excuses. First off, you aren’t a D1 high level coach at a powerhouse school. You have never coached at the college level and never will. So you also have never had to build and maintain a roster. You claim it’s exudes because you have no clue what you are talking about.Stop using scholarship reductions as an excuse for what was a mediocre roster in year 4 and will likely be even worse going into year 5. 2-3 a year doesn’t have an effect. Now if it were like the NFL where you only get 53 players it is a difference, but your 3 deep only consists of 66 players. Throw in your 3 specialists and another RB just so you’re 4 deep at that spot and it gets you to just 70. Now the first couple of years when we were still dealing with the exodus of transfers it had a pretty significant effect, but once you get to year 3 and 4 and you’ve beaten a Nick Saban Alabama team and dominated Clemson in the Orange Bowl on national TV and you have the transfer portal at your disposal and you have firmly cemented yourselves as a nationally relevant program again 2 less scholarships a year shouldn’t be hurting your 2 deep talent. In most cases the bulk of your 2 deep is going to be made up of guys that were in the top 20 of your recruiting board in your last 4 classes and scholarship reductions didn’t stop them from landing those players. They didn’t miss on Mauigoa, Carnell Tate, CJ Allen, Tony Rojas, Sylvester Smith, or the OT at Oregon or Walter Nolen in the portal because of scholarship reductions. Scholarship reductions didn’t cause our HS recruits and transfers to not pan out. It wasn’t like we were down to 70-75 scholarships and we were having to recruit in a way where 2-3 misses a year just decimated the rosterIt’s fans like you that are delusional. All you do is spew no sense and BS.
Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas, Mizzou all had seasoned 3-4 yr QBs coming back this year. None of them had a great season, in fact, all were disappointing somewhat based on preseason projections. Did all those staffs do a bad job? It’s not that he hasn’t improved the football in wins and loses it’s that the offense as a whole has taken a step backwards in years 3 and 4. No growth in the receivers department or QB department. Yes we have the star talent but it isn’t living up to its hype or development and that my friend is on coaching.
I’m not worried about those teams but Alabama and Ole Miss did do a bad job. Lost games they shouldn’t have lost. Texas only lost to GA twice. GA had struggles on things they shouldnt have struggled on. Some of the things are on the players but the difference between them and us are we didn’t adjust anything offensively. Defensively we were better this year because of added depth but got wore out with injuries later on this year. Things have to change for us to take a step forward. We are good team but not where it should be with the so called talent we have recruited.Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas, Mizzou all had seasoned 3-4 yr QBs coming back this year. Defensive coordinators don’t just keep doing the same **** every year. They adjusted. Most play the 2 deep safety def now and make teams work the ball downfield.
And a helluva lot from some of the people in this thread. It’s the usual suspects. They bitch and moan about things, but never have a solution or a plan. “Let’s get someone some better.” Oh really? Who? Who in their right mind would want to come here and be the coach for what would we deemed the most ungrateful group of “fans” in the country? We’ve had plenty of dumbass takes in the last 48 hrs.
All the fans are disappointed. The entitled attitude is patheticWe just played (and got destroyed by) a team that wants to fire their coach, despite the fact he has the highest winning percentage in college football. Meanwhile we had 30,000+ fans show up to see us get the brakes beaten off of us.
People need to stop bitching about the fans.
Ahh yes I remember you. You will continue to makes excuses into year 5,6,7,8 and so on. Sure there is a talent gap. Guess what, there likely always will be. There is also a coaching gap. Hard to complain with 10 wins. I get it. I do remember where we came from. But at some point we want more or we don’t. At some point we expect the staff to find ways to win these big games…. Or we don’t. I lean on the “find a way” side of the fence.Wrong. But you know everything.
For the sake of argument I’m curious who we should be modeling ourselves on as far as expectations. We were 0-8 in conference 7 years ago. Who has been in the absolute cellar in a major conference and vaulted to “greatness” in a similar time frame? Bonus points if they were dealing with sanctions. It's better to be good and on the cusp of achieving greatness instead of being complete dog $hit like we were for so many years.
I like our chances of taking the next step with this coaching staff. That was pretty much the point of my post. Not pleased with the outcome against OSU but this program is light years ahead of where we were before Heupel took over. For the sake of argument I’m curious who we should be modeling ourselves on as far as expectations. Should we set goals higher than this year’s result? Yes. Is it okay to have not climbed the mountain yet but still acknowledge progress from where we were? Also yes.
FFS I didn’t think I had to blue font my post but here it is.You can’t fire the guy. Im sure this has been pointed out multiple, multiple times, but your handle is very appropriate. Its either a troll or you have very low self esteem. Maybe both.Until Heupel and the team gets serious about competing for a championship, then you fake goody goodies on here can chalk this season up as another failure. What went down in Ohio should not be okay by anyone's standards. Be more like the real football fanbases and demand excellence, or you shall never see it in your lifetime.
Like I said already, everyone from this point forward will look at us all as loservols until this lost at Ohio is avenged.
Helluva job he has done with the $hit show he inherited!!For a program that averaged 6 wins per year the 13 years before him.
