Even trashy Tennessee teams are in contention for bowl games. That was a dumb take from day 1. Now if he had said finished ranked in top 15, perhaps that would have some logic.

I think he thrives on competition - not intimidated by it, not nasty about it, just absolutely loves it. What a great attitude to transfer to your team.

Heupel and Saban preach the same message. "Worry about yourself, do your job, and don't worry about the rest." Only Heupel isn't a ****, and enjoys the moment. Saban doesn't ever seem to "enjoy" anything except perfection, which is rarely if ever attainable. Heupel allows himself and his players to admit they have things to work on, while still celebrating what they've built together. Thats huge, and not many coaches can do that well.
