Heupel to Auburn...This might be the dumbest post I've seen.

I love how people assume Tennessee's offense will fall off a cliff once Hooker leaves as if Heupel isn't known for coaching up QBs at all... talented QBs just fall into his lap everywhere he goes.
And they act like Hooker was some generational can’t-miss talent and not someone we essentially claimed off waivers from a mediocre Virginia Tech team.

We need to put the word out that Gruden has land near Opelika and that he's been cleared of wrongdoing by the NFL.

Talk about delusional.

Josh Heupel

Short version:

"My personal choice to take on this daunting task is Josh Heupel. I know all of you can google his biography. Here are a few points to help me come to my conclusion

All American QB, National Champion at Okahoma No doubt he has the ability to coach up QB's.
28-8 record at Central Florida- 13 and 0 run with bowl win over Auburn
7-6 1st yr at Tennessee
Had Alabama down badly and made Saban's defense look lost.
Has Tennessee poised to make the college football playoff. Yes, I believe they beat Ga Saturday.
43-14 .754 % Overall Record
He's young 44, married with 2 young children. What better place to raise a family than Auburn?

Could Auburn reel him in? I know Tennessee will extend him an offer he can't refuse to keep him.

However, in my humble opinion, if you are having a conversation with names like Kiffen, Mark Stoops, Hugh Freeze, Deion Sanders, then for all the reasons above, you at least need to give Heupel a strong look."

The funnier part is the comments under this post in the Auburn forum.

They would rather pass on Huepel and think he is more like Ed Ogeron, a one year wonder lucking out with a stud QB.....HAHAHAHA!!!

I've seen the same on VN. It's amazing what a coaching search can do to a fan
Yeah-had the same thought. I’m not going to laugh after the speculation and desperation we had the last 4 coaching searches. Is Auburn tracking the flights of mediocre NFL coaches yet? If not, maybe we should hold the laughter and focus on finally having a good football team that plays above their talent level.

I don’t know why people do this, but I’ve seen UGA fans post the exact same comparison. Did Coach O turn it around like Heupel? Is he a known guru on any side of the ball? As I recall, he won with a generational qb and great coordinators. I also don’t recall Tony Romo predicting NFL interviews for Coach O.

I agree it's ridiculous. LSU was a perennial 9-10 win team under Les Miles before Ogeron. They always recruited well and didn't go anything like what UT has gone through the last decade. Plus, Huepel does have a good record at UCF and proved his offenses can put up points even then.

Crazy folks - there is no doubt that Kiffy is #1 on their dance cards. They had better be ready to back up the truck though, I dont think Olpiss is ready to lose him and he is making $7.25 with very little pressure ATM. If I were Lane, I would stay at OlMiss until Saban retires and he is likely to be a top contender if he can keep above 9 wins a year where he is. Ol Miss is always the bridesmade though, never the bride lol.

Sanders is a possible choice. He could be great for them but is kinda unknown whether he would make it at this level. Freeze just signed a contract but might come anyway (hope not).

Fortunately, Art Briles is still probably untouchable. Don't need him anywhere in the SEC.
Lane would take it for $2 million less

Tennessee is a better Job then Auburn, while Auburn is a good school and still a good job, you don’t leave Tennessee to go to Auburn..

Josh Heupel mentioned as option for open college football job

"I’m sure Auburn will give Heupel’s agent a call. But I imagine Heupel will be receiving a lot of calls this off-season. That’s something Tennessee fans will have to get used to as long as he’s in Knoxville and having success. It’s not a bad problem to have.

But as far as Heupel actually being a serious option for Auburn?

"I just don’t see it. For starters, I think Lane Kiffin will be the Tigers’ top target.

But mostly, I just can’t imagine Heupel wanting to leave Tennessee as he’s got the program rapidly moving in the right direction. Why start over at a place like Auburn that’s become a mess with booster involvement?

Remember, it was just a couple of months ago that Vols athletic director Danny White threw major shade at Auburn."

A complete turnaround in Year 2 mind you, and folks think he will leave? That's coaching malpractice. He wants a dynasty greater than Saban has done at Bama.

I don't understand why any coach would want to go to Auburn. Nothing inherently wrong with them, they always have potential, but the incessant meddling from boosters and moneymen who think they're entitled to run the program should scare away any coach in his right mind unless Auburn's offering aTm/LSU-level guaranteed money.
I think Lane will do it because the money will be excellent

Thank you for the comic relief the night before the big game.....

Football world just was not ready for us to get back to our place at the table...so they are trying to talk themselves into the fact that we won't stay here.....coach leaving is the best way to do that....

Just is not happening. Especially with the raise Huepel is getting ready to get.

And Auburn is a flaming dumpster fire right now....why go from where he has us and the future here with everything aligned finally to THAT?

It’s way more delusional even though the Gruden stuff got out of control. Gruden wasn’t coaching anywhere, Heupel is coaching at a top job in all of college football and has them at #1.

The likelihood of Gruden ever coaching at Tennessee and Heupel taking the Auburn are equal - 0% chance
