increase physical activity, reduce simple sugar intake, and stop treating fat as a bad thing.

It isn't so much what we eat now, but that we are lazy as hell now.

thats a lot of it.

btw, simple sugar intake isn't necessarily bad as long as you are burning it right away.

Wait, are you saying all that Gatorade I drink during the day is bad for me? I thought it was providing me with something called "electro lights"? :)

Yes, cutting out or minimizing soda is good (I drink about a can a week, typically go for cane sugar Coke or Blue Sky)

I don't put a huge focus on diet. I'm health conscious, but I don't want my diet to run my life. I emphasize whole grains, I get more than enough protein, I do a multi-vitamin, and I try to get leafy greens (but not as well as I should). Other than that I don't really monitor anything or put restrictions on myself. It's hard force yourself to eat right when you naturally stay pretty lean, not that I'm complaining.

I'll watch the vid tomorrow at work. Get some inspiration.

White flour is fortified with vitamins that developing countries, especially those where rice is a staple, are fervently trying to get their populations to ingest. These vitamins have eradicated many diseases that used to be simple facts of life in America. Railing against fortified and genetically modified foods simply because they are fortified and/or genetically modified is ignorant, in my opinion. What is next? Are individuals going to stop using iodized salt?

Moving away from fortified and modified food sources should only be a move made by those individuals who already have a very well rounded diet and take in all the other vitamins they need through a vast array of (not just any "favorite") green vegetables. Championing this cause to individuals who already have poor dietary habits, thus removing some of the only sources of vitamins that keep them from coming down with serious diseases, poses a threat to the health of the entire society.

So now that we're on the topic of HFCS, I was wondering what y'all's opinion is on that? It seems the health purists say you gotta go with cane sugar (which I prefer the taste of, anyway), but from what I understand the scientific consensus is that sugar is sugar, and there's no convincing data that states cane sugar is better for you.

Reasonably interesting view and probably right on a large percentage of it.

Wonder how many nutritionists are in the hip pockets of food industry.
Posted via VolNation Mobile

every food company has many nutritionist..
there's pending package changes that will put key nutrionitional information on the front panel of every product, ie fat content, sodium, calories
there will be no more hiding it on the back or side of the package

I dunno about that, I'm all for a company's ability to market with packaging. As long as they are required to list ingredients and nutritional information somewhere, I'm happy.

For all of you who want to know whats wrong with the food industry in America and have Netflix, I highly recommend a documentary called Food, Inc.. This is a wonderful documentary that may only be surpassed by Beer Wars

Gubm't subsidies to the beef producers has made it cheaper for a family to roll through the Burger King drive through than to purchase fruits and vegetables.

they say that artificial sweetner actually induces cravings, and therefore can cause people to eat more.

I also read somewhere (some time ago, too) that artificial sweetner has the potential to throw your metabolism out of whack because your body thinks it's sugar, tries to process it, and yields no carbs to convert to glycogen. Then, when you get real simple sugars, the body is not as efficient when processing the carbs to glycogen or something.

No link, and that's from my foggy recollection of an article I read years ago. Also, I'm no nutritionist. So, it could be total crap, which it probably is. :)
