just wanted to read everyones opinion on Coach Jones?

From what I can tell he just gets it and is what the program needs. Jones seems to do everything right. Everyone from the players to the non football staff love him and also believe in his plan unlike the crap Dooley fed.

He has all the players overachieving unlike Dooley and I think it will make a difference. I wouldn't be shocked if we upset someone this year (UGA or USC) but he does have his work cut out for him.

Gillespie will be an upgrade over Graham from the recruiting and coaching standpoint. Some stuff went on behind the scenes that didn't make Graham feel as welcome. Robert is already making a difference with the backs in very little time.

Also I wouldn't be shocked if more behind the scenes stories about Dooley surface as the season nears.

I thought you died! Zas, good to have you back. As to CBJ, I am not sold on anything until I see our team on the field.

Funny how this always seems to the popular opinion after we lose a recruit or a coach. There is a reason Graham was wanted at other schools you know.

Whats your logic for calling Gillespie an upgrade? Graham was the most important staff member (in 90% of Volnations opinion) that needed to stay after Dools was let go. When he left he hurt some feelings im sure, but that doesnt mean that the next RB coach is going to automatically be better than he was. Im sure Gillespie will do fine im just not ready to start calling him a better coach than Graham. JMO

My question is, What happened behind the scenes to make Jones feel unwelcome?

It may not be all about coaching ability. There is a thing called organizational synergy. Graham either didn't "gel" with the rest of the staff...OR...money talks and he got a big pay raise that UT would not match.

WOW. The things we come up with on Volnation never ceases to amaze me. :clapping:

There is no loyalty to things such as Alma Marta or "Vol for Life" . That stuff just sounds good. Money talks and BS walks my friend , whether it be in football or preachers. The money is the bottom line.

The only thing Graham had over Gillespie is the fact he was a former Vol, the sooner we let go of "but he's not a Vol" and take an upgrade for what it is the sooner we climb out of this funk.

Welcome back Zasnow.

Alma Marta should not be used as an escape goat, graham was a pre Madonna IMO

To answer your question Zas, I have found most of VN to be pleasantly realistic about Jones. Everyone loves what he is about, the attitude, the enthusiasm, and the recruiting. But final judgement will come from results on the field.

Obviously Jones wanted Graham to stick around or he wouldnt have offered him a raise to 300k. Maybe Graham just wasnt comfortable with the fit?! Maybe he and Sanders wanted to take the swing pass to FSU. Fact is, Gillespie is probably a better fit because he has coached in similar offensive situations at Okie State and WVU.

Funny how, two weeks after Graham leaves, we get the two biggest RB commits we have had in a decade. I was bummed when Graham left because I had the same opinion everybody else did in regards to his recruiting. I thought he was our home run recruiter. But it looks like (at least from results from commitments) that Gillespie is at the very least as good of a recruiter (I would say better). Who is the better field coach? That is still to be determined.
