Hide Your Kids

Is this a bad thing?

Its not the governments place to tell you how to raise your kids. Its the parents.

Bobby: Mom can I have some Ice Cream?
Mom: Bobby, I will have to check with our Government Advisor on How to Raise our Kids, to see if its ok.

Yes it is. I don't want them sticking their foot any further in my door. If I feed my 14 year old son only cheeseburgers and fries, what business is it of hers?

I know they would hate to know I have taught my son how to shoot a pistol, rifle, and shotgun. We go hunting, to the shooting range, and burn the lake up during the summer for fish.

Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein wants to stop all this nonsense we rednecks do here in the South.

Even if you're putting your kid's health at risk?

Yes. It's none of their business. If I tell my child you don't have to wear a seatbelt, that's my decision not theirs.

If a Jehovah Witness wants to keep their children from celebrating Christmas or away from the doctor, it's their decision. Who knows whats best for your child, you or Mrs. Barry?

I can't believe some people rely on the government for every little need on how to live their life.

can't say I disagree with this but it will fail as bad as Nancy Reagan's great plan. The fact is that these obese people will become a burden and cause healthcare costs to rise. Telling them they are fat at an early age when they can do something about it is a good idea IMO. And if your kid lives on burgers and fries then you are a piss poor parent who should never have procreated in the first place.

Holy balls. Are you guys serious? So that news story a few months ago about the boy who had cancer and who's mother wanted to refuse treatment for him because god would heal him or whatever......you agree with her? She should have been able to refuse treatment for him?

it does start with the parents as you suggest. if the parents know nothing about basic nutrition i doubt any amount of hand wringing by our queen is going to make a difference. i know plenty of people who bring home fast food for their kids on a regular basis and/or let the kids eat whatever they want. my future sister in law always asks the kid what he wants for lunch and invariably it's mac and cheese or chicken fingers. the fact is it's not hard or expensive to make healthy food from scratch, but people don't know any better.

it's not and people can be educated on how to do that. I can't see how trying to help a generation of xbox slobs is a bad thing

Women murder babies every day in this country. Would you want to step in and save the lives of these babies? If a woman has a right to murder her baby, whats the difference in what you posted above?

Of course I don't feed him junk food every day. If she wants to pass out brochures, that's fine. Just don't enforce me on how to raise my child.

i think it's more that the obama's feel like it is their duty to condesend to the rest of us and force their views on the rest of america. "my kids were fat once too!" Thanks michele. because all of us are upper class lawyers with personal chefs and trainers.

They're called liberals.

Liberals are ones who want people to rely on government. People who rely on government for every little need are called slaves.

This. I can agree that she should put the information out there. And encourage for health to stay away from certain habits. (Surgeon's General Warning) But to try and intervene in parenting is wrong on more than 1 level. Not sure who said it (BFranklin I think) "any government big enough to give you everything you need, is big enough to take it away" Thanks but no thanks.

You didn't answer my question. Do you agree that the boy's mother has a right to refuse chemotherapy for him?

Who the hell said anything about being jailed?

who is saying intervene or take over parenting. By most accounts MO is a smart lady. Even she admits it took an outside influence to point out that she needed to change. Offering help is not taking over. A healthier population helps us all down the road

It was the family's pediatrician who first waved the red flag. He was seeing subtle changes in the girls' body mass index she didn't see.
"I thought my kids were perfect," Mrs. Obama said. "They are and always will be." She hadn't realized that her daughters were in danger of becoming obese. She wasn't sure what to do, but she knew she had to do something she said.
