High risk: Vandy blocks Vols’ path to playoffs- westwords

This Vandy team could easily beat us. When the moment counts it seems our team doesn’t raise up to the occasion, this is a chance they show the world we belong in the playoffs.
They could easily beat us only if we let them beat us. We just need to have our bodies, minds, and spirits working as one unit, all pulling in the same direction, and all our guys bring nothing but their A games. If we do that, we win!

We need to play loose and stop pressing. If we can get back to up tempo first down second down first down offense, it will be a looong day for Vandy. Let dsamp eat. Front 7 pressure contain and spy pavia early and often.

This is an Apollo Creed vs Rocky Balboa like scenario. Tennessee is far superior on paper but Vanderbilt has played with significantly more heart all season and has absolutely nothing to lose coming into this game. This Vanderbilt team is not one to be trifled with.

Never thought I would see the day for the Tennessee v.s. Vandy game to have such an impact on the national scene.

Vandy has been waiting for this one and they'll be ready. Vols need to run the ball and throw it to Bru.

The defense needs to show up. Bama had no issue at all scoring on Vandy, but Vandy did what they wanted on O and had the ball for 45 minutes that game.

"Diego Pavia is captain of the threat. Tennessee has not demonstrated great strategy at containing mobile quarterbacks. This one is mobile. If you are comfortable sending notes to defensive coordinator Tim Banks, mention the possibility of assigning a spy. It will help some if the defensive front doesn’t jump offsides."
You should rewatch the bama game. We gave Milroe hell.

Can Vandy win. Absolutely. But only if we give it away like we did Arkansas. If we play a good game, we win.

"Take my word for it, these Commodores could knock off Tennessee. Possible. There have been seven road upsets of ranked SEC teams by the hot and bothered unranked. One more would absolutely wreck playoff hopes and plans. It would disrupt Heupel’s remarkable foundation, 30 victories in three years" Marvin West at his best, with the reasons Tennessee needs their best game on Saturday. It's Vandy's Super Bowl! Read the story. westwords View attachment 700629

Pavia has lifted Vanderbilt above their pay grade this season.

I understand people not wanting to act like Vandy is a pushover, but this is absolutely ridiculous.

And Milroe isn't a mobile QB?? He wasn't against us!

They rose up to defeat Alabama this year.

Yes but Bama didnt take the threat seriously. This is a senior lead team...offense and defense. The half dozen NFL bound guys like Cooper, Bru, Campbell, Omari, Omar NLott, Bailey, Pearce etc etc will keep this team Hyper focused and ready to beat that azz In Nashville. Our team knows that this is ACTUALLY our 1st playoff game...of 5. We win 5 straight games, hopefully the first 2 are in Nashville them Neyland....and WE ARE NATIONAL CHAMPS.

The playoffs start saturday. VOL FANS go get your TICKETS and turn that craphole stadium ORANGE for the big game. We need to beat these fools by 2TDs or more...so we can move up and HOST that playoff game in Neyland where we simply DO NOT LOSE.

Lets GO VOLS!!! LFG!! WGWTFA!

This. Actually the only QB who had success against us was a non-runner (Carson Beck) .. so not sure what Westwords is saying about TN struggling against running QBs ? Does he even watch the game ??
Beck had some timely runs against UT; but for the most part didn't need to. So did Arkie's QB. Just saying. I think West meant that as a rule, Tennessee has had problems with dual threat QBs.

We haven’t found that gear all season. Whenever we’ve tried, someone goes down with an injury or someone jumps offsides. It would be a sight for sore eyes if we line up with warp speed and got the ball snapped without error.

"Pavia came as part of the package. Tight end Eli Stowers came, too. He was a double transfer, from Texas A&M to New Mexico State to Vanderbilt. Others with chips on their shoulders, with something to prove, transferred in. NIL money has miraculous potential."

"The movement was very unlike Vanderbilt. Old grads shuddered. Some of the newcomers had never heard of Shakespeare or even organismal biology. Anthropology? Are you kidding me?" Looks like Vandy lowered their standards a bit? It's all about the Benjamins.

F that guy….Vols win

Classy , especially at a 90 year old Hall of Fame UT Grad......Read HIS credentials....

Marvin West

Marvin West has lasting credentials. He was sports editor of the student newspaper at the University of Tennessee in 1954. In what was then considered progress, he became sports editor and then managing editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel. He went to Washington as national sports editor of Scripps-Howard News Service. He organized and directed coverage of World Series baseball, Final Four basketball, Super Bowls, Masters golf and seven Olympics. In Washington as in Knoxville, West was promoted to managing editor. He oversaw a staff of 90 and edited a daily news wire. Scripps had 410 newspaper and radio station customers. West was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers’ Hall of Fame. He is a member of four other halls and was named a “Distinguished American” by the National Football Foundation. Vol athletes chose him as an honorary letterman.
