High risk: Vandy blocks Vols’ path to playoffs- westwords

The trouble with Tennessee is our DL often penetrates, but fail to get the QB on the ground. Time and again, he slips out of our grasp for significant yardage or to score. Solve this, and we solve the Vanderbilt problem.

As poorly as we play on the road, especially in big games, losing to Vandy is possible.

But the crowd is usually very orange in Nashville. So, hopefully that plays in our favor.

We really can’t afford to have another bumbled opportunity here. The program’s trajectory needs to remain on an upward glidepath. Pi$$ing away big chances has become our hallmark, particularly on the road, need to shake that trend.

Since the days of Jim Delany (mastermind of the disastrous BCS), the Big 10 has operated like a collective money-making machine with guaranteed appearances in major post season bowls, expanded contracts and league, etc. even though they continue to lose the big games. Wouldn't surprise me if this is an unspoken rule in that league. Fun fact: the only Big 10 teams to win a natty since 1989 (Delany's first year) are OSU and Michigan for a combined total of 3. And yet they are the richest league with more money than the SEC.

During the same time period, the SEC won 17 natties, from six different teams: AL, GA, LSU, AU, FL, and TN. Hopefully Sankey has the same mindset.
The sec is tougher. The big 10 is smarter. From tv contracts to playoff gamesmanship, Petitti is running circles around Sankey.

This, exactly.
I don’t know how many times that we’ve taken a bad angle and a QB has sidestepped us this season.
Even our first round draft choice.
Very frustrating.

One of the major problems with the Dline is they run themselves out of players by getting behind the QB/Runner and let them run up the middle, because the LBs have dropped into pass coverage. The second problem is our LBs and a. safety or two, are not fast enough to cover WRs down field.
