Crash is pretty awful. I understand that racism is the central theme, but good lord, I can't recall another movie that so obnoxiously smacks its audience upside the head with the same general idea at every single turn.

"Okay, people are racist. Here's an Oscar."

Either was better than Forrest Gump.

At the time, I think any of the "big 3" from that year would have been justifiable.

Pulp Fiction, however, has aged like fine wine. It was great when it came out, but it has since grown into a landmark film that enjoys a regular spot on all-time lists.

Forrest Gump has held up nicely over time as well and remains one of the most quotable movies ever.

Shawshank was great, but I drew far too many comparisons with Escape From Alcatraz when I saw it (main protagonist tunneling out of the cell, dealing with a prison rapist, the old man with a small pet, an a**hole warden, suicide, hiding the digging tool in the bible, etc.). Doesn't take anything away from its greatness, because it remains standing on its own as a classic, but I actually liked Alcatraz better.

The Wolf of Wall Street was a steaming pile of garbage.

And I am a HUGE DiCaprio/Scorsese fan. Huge.

That movie didn't live up to either of their expectations. It had potential, but it was way too over the top on way too many levels.

All 3 are well made films..IMDB ranks each of them in the top 15 films of all time

1) Shawshank
5) Pulp Fiction
13) Gump

Is Pulp Fiction the best example of the nonlinear storytelling narrative? The only one to me that comes close would be Memento and maybe Jacob's Ladder?

I've been wanting to see Birdman..is it kinda like The Wrestler? I really liked that one and was pulling for Rourke to win the Oscar

Birdman is absolute garbage. Plotless. Horrible acting. Just a 5* snorefest.

Liberal^^^^^^^ haha, I kid, I kid.

I didn't see it till about a month after it came out. I kept hearing how great it was from everyone else....it was hyped up so much...that it was a letdown for me. Lone Survivor was a lot better than this one imo.

JK... But for realz... Back when Shawshank came out on video I came into my parents watching the last 20min or so and basically had the end ruined before watching the whole thing. I immediately took the VHS to my room and watched from the beginning. I still love that movie.

I agree. For the life of me I can't understand why is was so critically acclaimed. It's one of Scorsese's weakest films IMHO. And people complained Leo should have won the Oscar for this, not even close. I didn't even think he deserved a nomination.
