Hilton Head, Charleston, or Myrtle Beach?

Use to go to Bike Week n Daytona n still ride. Loved to go to the Lighthouse Bar n Grill on Ponce Inlet....next to the lighthouse. The best Crab burger you ever tasted!! The racoons would come out of the trees begging for food till the waiters ran them off. IS that place still there...it was a ton of fun....and I hooked up with a really cute lil server one year. (another story for another time)

Yup. Still there. It isn't bad, but not one of my favorites. I think I did get the crab cakes last time and they were quite good. But most of their food is fried, so we don't go there often.

Have you visited historic Savannah? I like it better than historic Charleston myself.

Oh yeah! I've spent a lot of time in Savannah. Love it. While similar in architecture, culture and history, Savannah has a very different personality to it that I really like.

If you’re interested in the area then you really should look at the isle of palms. For those who don’t know it’s an island off of Charleston.
We just did our family vacation in Charleston, wife and I stayed a couple extra days. We visited Isle of Palms, it was the absolute highlight for my wife.

Im looking at Anna Maria Island in Florida right now. Looks nice.
I've been looking for a place to spend a couple/three months during the wicked cold months in my motor home. It looks nice, first campground I looked at there had a restriction on dogs for something like ankle biter 12 pounders. I immediately crossed them off of the list.

Yeah, October for fall break. Stayed at that little condo complex right behind Skinnys.
We're probably going to ft Myers or Naples in October for fall break, leaning towards Ft Myers because of Sanibel.

IMO: Sanibel > Fort Myers > Naples. I like Sanibel/Captiva Island for the beach (shell beaches mostly), restaurants and natural areas. But it’s probably more expensive than Fort Myers.

Note: even in late Oct, weather is no problem further north in Sarasota and St. Pete area. I wouldn’t go further south just to get warmer weather.

Thanks. We got to spend a day in Naples, and a day at Marco island recently. Went up to bonita beach right below ft. Myers and liked it. We just gotta be somewhere within driving distance to Weston fl, within a couple of hours anyway. Wife is having surgery there in August, and we'll have to do a follow up in October during fall break. We figured we'd make a vacation out of it, with one day for her appointment.

I’ve never been to Charleston, but of the other two, HH is the undisputed winner. It’s quite a bit more upscale and less touristy than Myrtle. Also more laid back. Lots of nice golf courses as well. You can rent bikes and pretty much ride them everywhere you want to go, including all along the beach. I imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to rent one of those little carriers you pull behind the bike for the one year old.

As a general rule I pretty much hate the beach, but I had a lot of fun the time I went to HH. I went the week of St. Patrick’s Day, which is probably about the springtime equivalent of going in October. Weather was plenty warm to golf and ride around town on the bikes, but maybe not so warm you’d do a lot of swimming. Perfect golfing weather.

Only thing that gives me pause is that you said you’re looking for something “Gatlinburg-ish”, and honestly that’s Myrtle. It’s basically Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg only with a gross, crowded beach.

Agreed. Sanibel is amazing. One of my fave places in the state.

Wife and I are trying Pawley Island in a month or so. Just looking for something laid back and easy going, but close to Darlington.

Did HH last year. It was fine. Like there was nothing wrong with it, but it felt somewhat generic, like it had no history.

The one year old seems to be what you're most concerned about.

A chill beach should keep the young one entertained and provide for great pictures and memories.

Sullivan's Island and IOP are very nice and you have areas that aren't overcrowded.

All the islands and Folly Beach are great places to stay/visit around Charleston and if you put in the work you'll find some bargains.

When the child gets older go to HHI.

There's no good reason to go to MB and I have family there.

I did a contract at the ER in Myrtle Beach. We had lots of gunshots at that place. Definitely not my favorite contract.

I grew up going to North Myrtle and recently lived there for 3 years. If you go to Myrtle you stay North from Kingston Plantation to Windy Hill to Cherry Grove, or you stay south around Murrels to Garden City. However, Myrtle Proper has really gone downhill. All of these punks from Loris and Conway have come into town and caused issues w/ gang violence down on The Strip. It’s a shame because it used to be a family friendly area with the Pavilion and other places to enjoy. It needs a major overhaul to reclaim the area from the garbage businesses and people that have taken over.

There are large areas for shopping and dining such as Barefoot Landing, which I prefer over Broadway at the Beach. There are tons of good family places to enjoy, I would just stay away from The Strip. Too much partying, traffic, stupidity for me to go down there anymore .

Wife and I go there every year for anniversary. Fun and Relaxing. I don't recommend crossing the Skyway bridge trying to beat a trproical storm though.
Now I want to try this 🤣. My wife's surgery is August 25th, and we're going back to south Florida in Oct for a week?, and taking a day to drive for a follow up visit. I told her we'd be there both times during hurricane season, and we're taking the recorder 🤣

I live in Pawleys Island -- just about a perfect place to be. We're 90 minutes from Charleston, 25 minutes from Myrtle Beach and situated on one of the prettiest strips of unspoiled, uncrowded coastline in the Southeast. I highly recommend staying in Pawleys and daytripping to Myrtle and Charleston. That way, you get the best of all of it.

We use to do pawleys a lot before we got a place in MB. Usually stayed at condo with a pool for the kids and went to the state park for beach access.
