Hilton Head, Charleston, or Myrtle Beach?

I live in Pawleys Island -- just about a perfect place to be. We're 90 minutes from Charleston, 25 minutes from Myrtle Beach and situated on one of the prettiest strips of unspoiled, uncrowded coastline in the Southeast. I highly recommend staying in Pawleys and daytripping to Myrtle and Charleston. That way, you get the best of all of it.

I’ll be there Labor Day weekend. Making a beach holiday/NASCAR race out of it.

Any local restaurants you recommend?

So many awesome ones! Gio's Italian Kitchen is my favorite Italian restaurant. Both Frank's Outback and Bistro 217 are great for dinner, and Rustic Table is really good comfort food. Quigley's Pint & Plate is a terrific place for dinner and drinks (and I can walk to it - so that's a plus for me). For seafood, Hanser House is a great choice in Pawleys. Or head up to the Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet - can't go wrong with Graham's Landing, Mojo's or Wicked Tuna. And for burgers, River City Cafe has a ton of choices. Lastly, Pawleys Island Tavern (The PIT) is where the locals hang out, and Eggs Up Grill is the go-to place for a fantastic breakfast or brunch. I hope this helps. If you have any questions about the area, just let me know. I think you'll love it here!

Although it hasn’t been as good the last couple times we always hit Sarah J’s in murrells inlet. Seems it has fallen off a bit post Covid but they have the best hush puppies ever. We did hamburger joes in surfside last time and I was pleasantly surprised.

Savannah is great. It’s just gotten terribly dirty in recent years and homeless thing is out of hand.

Savannah is "little Charleston" and much less expensive, even on Tybee Island - my favorite place.

Savannah is absolutely ghetto, at least that was my experience. Downtown was neat and there was a pretty nice shopping/restaurant area near the airport, but literally every spot outside of those two places felt like somewhere I shouldn’t be driving through.

….. as you can probably tell, I did not enjoy Savannah.

I haven’t been there in a couple years but I thought they somehow ran everybody out. When I was there they were talking about former bum problems.

When we go, we stay in the historic district and never Leave that area, except maybe to drive out to Tybee. Some great restaurants and bars, and In terms of architecture, and history, it’s hard to beat. Plus we are coming in from the bridge over the Savannah River, which dumps you right downtown.

Myrtle Beach would rank about 15th on a list of beaches that I would go to on the East Coast. It's dirty, overcrowded, crime ridden, and wore out looking.

I'd go:
Charleston (although not a big fan of their beaches)
Hilton Head

Other places I would consider:
Saint Augustine
Tybee Island/Savannah
Panhandle of Florida/South Alabama

Ponte Vedra is a nice East Coast resort.

Charleston is great but more a couples vacation spot than for young kids. Aquarium is pretty good there and they may enjoy something like the ferry ride out to Ft. Sumter.

Can’t beat the FL gulf coast if you want to go to the beach. We prefer Pensacola Beach.

I saw you mention a few times you wanted to be able to push the stroller around on the sidewalk and look at cool things. DC is great for that. We went when ours were 4 and 1 and it was the perfect spot for that age.

Isle of Palms, which is in Charleston County. Hilton Head is way too crowded. Isle of Palms is really calm and just like 20 minutes away from downtown Charleston, which has a really nice Aqaurium.

I second this. Isle of Palms is a great low key beach. Probably some good Air BnB around there nowadays.
