What I can’t seem to grasp is if Conference Tournaments wins don’t matter, why waste all that time and money to play those games if they don’t mean anything in the NCAA tournament?
Also, the chairman of the selection committee said they take quad wins in consideration. We have 10 quad wins and won 2 out of 3 against UK, yet they’re ahead of us. I thought it didn’t matter according to JL?
Instead of rewarding teams that truly deserve it, they make up sh*t and try to justify their reasoning while giving no real explanation at all.
What an absolute clown show this has become.
Ken Pom UT 7 / Aub 10
Net UT 8 / Aub 12
UT 26-7
Aub 27-5
UT 11 Q1 wins
Aub 8 Q1wins
Tennessee won head to head
SOS UT 5th / Aub 34th
Aub has ONE win vs a team that finished ranked….a home win vs KY
Tennessee has 6 wins vs teams that finished ranked…..including 4 that finished inside the top 5.
Sure Auburn won the regular season……..by ONE game, then got bounced in their first round……while Tennessee kept on winning.
No way on earth Duke or Auburn “should” have been a 2 over Tennessee……NONE.
Tennessee beats UK twice and wins the SEC Tournament.
Lunardi: “It doesn’t matter”
That has to got to be the most piss poor explanation I’ve ever heard in my life.
“You’re wrong. I had Duke and Auburn like 20% ahead of Tennessee before the conference tournament. And the conference tournament doesn’t matter, sometimes. I have some secret metrics (strictly confidential), you see. And they say Duke and Auburn definitely are ahead of Tennessee. I mean, if I had a vote, Tennessee would be a 2 (according to my other secret metrics, I guess). But the committee got it right with Tennessee as a 3.
Did that clear things up for you?”
- Joe Lunardi
I’d have the starters show up in nice street clothes and play all the guys at the end of the bench. The SEC championship tournament games don’t matter (apparently) and only serve to give the team short rest before the tournament. What a joke.If I’m coaching, moving forward we’re playing an easy OOC schedule and I’m resting starters during the SEC tourney.
All valid points, but what if Chandler had been seriously injured? For what? To me, not worth it if the selection committee doesn’t care.I get that but I’m still very happy to win the sec tourney
Also I’d rather come in playing hot than having starters who haven’t played in weeks. It just sucks the last 3 weeks don’t matter.
