Go look on ESPN.com under Tennessee. Rese Davis grills lunardi about it. His explanation is ridiculous

From Cats Illustrated:

“It just goes to show, the SEC Tournament and its relationship to seeding means nothing. It is all about the money and ending it on Sunday is to fill in the slot for the media.”

“Sad
The fact UT is a 3 seed also proves it.”

“Duke (2-seed):
NET - 13
KenPom - 12
SOS - 67
Q1 Wins - 6
Q2-4 Losses - 4

Tennessee (3-seed):
NET - 8
KenPom - 7
SOS - 4
Q1 Wins - 11
Q2-4 Losses - 0

I will be so glad when Coach K retires”

“What a hosing by the committee. Welcome to the club UT! We’ve been there before!”

“WOW. I had not seen those Stats. I hate UT but man they got Screwed”

“TN got bent over, greased up and make to squeal like a pig.

Somebody tell me again how much the SEC final counts? Complete and utter BS.”

“That's just criminal”
“Criminal....It really is.”
“That’s insane and blatant robbery”

What I can’t seem to grasp is if Conference Tournament wins don’t matter, why waste all that time and money to play those games if they don’t mean anything in the NCAA tournament?

Also, the chairman of the selection committee said they take quad wins into consideration. We have 10 quad wins and won 2 out of 3 against UK, yet they’re ahead of us. I thought it didn’t matter according to JL?

Instead of rewarding teams that truly deserve it, they make up sh*t and try to justify their reasoning while giving no real explanation at all.

What an absolute clown show this has become.

All of those metrics only matter if the teams they want to win meet them. We got hosed plain and simple and someone needs to answer why. At worst we should have been the 2nd #2 and it wouldn’t have been crazy to have jumped to a #1. This wreaks of corruption.

Ken Pom UT 7 / Aub 10
Net UT 8 / Aub 12

UT 26-7
Aub 27-5

UT 11 Q1 wins
Aub 8 Q1wins

Tennessee won head to head

SOS UT 5th / Aub 34th

Aub has ONE win vs a team that finished ranked….a home win vs KY

Tennessee has 6 wins vs teams that finished ranked…..including 4 that finished inside the top 5.

Sure Auburn won the regular season……..by ONE game, then got bounced in their first round……while Tennessee kept on winning.

No way on earth Duke or Auburn “should” have been a 2 over Tennessee……NONE.

“You’re wrong. I had Duke and Auburn like 20% ahead of Tennessee before the conference tournament. And the conference tournament doesn’t matter, sometimes. I have some secret metrics (strictly confidential), you see. And they say Duke and Auburn definitely are ahead of Tennessee. I mean, if I had a vote, Tennessee would be a 2 (according to my other secret metrics, I guess). But the committee got it right with Tennessee as a 3.

Did that clear things up for you?”

Tennessee beats UK twice and wins the SEC Tournament.

Lunardi: “It doesn’t matter”

That has to got to be the most piss poor explanation I’ve ever heard in my life.

Welp, I guess we’re just gonna have to whoop Arizona again, and split the season series with Villanova.

Here’s what I got for the bracket:

I would have preferred the 12 seed so we could just run the damn thing.

yea Joe didn’t clear anything…….he actually screwed himself by having Tennessee a 3……a week a go.

I take it things didn’t plan out (as far as wins) as Joe (and the committee) thought.

If I’m coaching, moving forward we’re playing an easy OOC schedule and I’m resting starters during the SEC tourney.
I’d have the starters show up in nice street clothes and play all the guys at the end of the bench. The SEC championship tournament games don’t matter (apparently) and only serve to give the team short rest before the tournament. What a joke.

I get that but I’m still very happy to win the sec tourney

Also I’d rather come in playing hot than having starters who haven’t played in weeks. It just sucks the last 3 weeks don’t matter.
All valid points, but what if Chandler had been seriously injured? For what? To me, not worth it if the selection committee doesn’t care.
