hockey playoffs.

Sharks started a wicked fight last night at the GEC after the Preds scored on the empty net to seal the deal. Playoff hockey is insane.

On the talks about hockey popularity... I find it important for a person to GO to a game first before they ever try and watch it on TV. Being there completely changes your perception of the game. TV doesn't begin to do it justice.

My guess is that soccer is similar, but if you make the effort to appreciate other parts of the game that are the buildup to scoring, watching a soccer game is very interesting. Far better than a baseball game, IMO. One thing that amazes me is the physical fitness of soccer players on the top level. I thoroughly enjoy watching World Cup and Champions League.

An off topic note, NHL games have beat NBA games something like 6 weekends in a row when broadcast by networks in the same time slot in the ratings...Pro Basketball is the real "bastard sport", but they have ESPN backing

i really want to like Soccer, a few guys at work said "once you have a Club to root for, you'll like it" So i chose Manchester City, the team my favorite Boxer likes...The sport just doesn't do it for me, i can't watch it. Now i understand how people who can't watch racing feel. I always thought once people watched enough racing to have a favorite driver, they'd like it...but i was wrong. I really want to like Soccer, but i just can't...Though i was in Korea for the 2002 world cup, i rooted wholeheartedly against South Korea. Of course i was in 4/7 CAV at the time, so i was drunk 23 hours a day on weekends, and we were locked down to post in case of riots.

what a bitch Kovalchuk is, if he wants to get hurt for real get up close and personal with Colton Orr, rather than take a "Crosby Dive"

what a great win for the pens, it's great listening to Mike Lang call the game here in the burgh. I picked my daughter up from soccer practice and it was 3-2 ottowa then before I got home (10 min drive home) we went up 4-3 awesome and held. Playoff Hocey is great.

From Television today, i can see the 1st 20 rows or so.. I see a generous smattering of empty seats, and lots of people sitting on their asses, with the home team down 1-0 and on the Power Play

While the atmosphere was fantastic on Thursday night, it was definitely a little subdued yesterday, especially after the fluke goal. The team hasn't given the home crowd much to cheer about -- ESPECIALLY on the power play.

Kovalchuk can indeed be a whiner and a prima donna sometimes. Rangers fans haven't got too much right to complain about him, however, considering the centerpiece of their team is probably the biggest sissy in the history of the NHL.

My apologies for being more confrontational than I should have been towards you. After losing that game and having to deal with all the usual jackass Rangers/Yankees fans on the train, to come back here and read a guy on a Tennessee board of all places criticizing the one good thing about Thursday, which was that the crowd was fantastic -- well, that made me livid and I simply overreacted. That second post of mine was useless and gratuitously confrontational. My apologies.

He is the best in the league as of now, but his "Crosby Dive" to catch penalties has been caught on to by the refs, himself, Maliken, and company, have alot of playoff runs to come, but not this year, not deep enough top to bottom

Never say THAT again....i understand your anger, perhaps a playoff experience will make home-ice better in the future for a great young team:eek:k:

The Thrashers are NOT a young team, which is the frustrating thing about it. They've got a lot of veterans with a ton of playoff experience and a Cup-winning coach in Hartley, which makes it that much more inexplicable that they're playing as though they didn't realize that playoff hockey would be different. I'm not throwing in the towel yet; the Thrashers are only being outscored 6-4 so far, once of which was a complete fluke, and one of the weird things about the playoffs is that teams frequently play tighter, more disciplined hockey on the road than at home. Things could still conceivably turn around -- but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

The reason I said Rangers/Yankees is because that's the traditional pairing -- Rangers/Yankees, Mets/Islanders. Many of your Ranger-clad compatriots at the games were sporting their Yankees caps too. Being a fan of the Red Sox, Rangers and Tennessee has got to be an almost unique combination, that's for sure.

Don't forget the Packers...my teams are scattered both geographically and by their average fanbase, but i am loyal to all

Well, I royally screwed up on my hockey playoff pool, I have to have Dallas win tonight to be .500 for the first round. I better stick to working in hockey and not predicting it.

My Preds are out, and the Avs weren't even in; so I guess I will keep on rooting for whoever is playing the Red Wings, and continue to aggravate my Detroit-loving girlfriend.

Also, I have some theories on lawgator's hatred of all things hockey....
a) He has never been to a game live, because it is MUCH better than on tv.
b) He is just upset because Florida has one of the worst club teams in college hockey history. We beat them 16-1 this season. Go Ice Vols!

Hate to risk stirring up another disagreement, but down the stretch Jaromir made several big hits, including leveling Zdeno Chara in the corner against that Boston team to free the puck to Straka to set up the game winner....I mean LEVELED!
