Holding Onto 2014 Commits

I think with the way CJ has come on the scene I think he will do good holding on to this class kidds see the chance to come in and compete for a starting job right away that's something a lot of other schools can't offer

CBJ has exceeded everyone's predictions for the number of quality commitments for 2014. But those are verbal. Here is what I project to be our chances for signing those 3 Star Prospects and above come next year after this Fall's performance on the gridiron:

#of Wins/# of Losses and the % 3*+ Kept

4-8 40%
5-7 45%
6-6 50%
7-5 70%
8-4 or better 90%

Let me play devil's advocate for a minute.

Many people on here state if Butch Jones loses a bunch of games this year we will lose our recruits. One guy even gave his odds on here breaking it down per game. I thought that was cute.

But what if a lot of these guys are coming here because they think the current team is a bunch of scrubs and they will have instant playing time? What if these scrubs go out and win 8 or 9 games and suddenly the recruit believes instant playing time is no longer an option? What if winning actually cost us some of these recruits? What if?

I mean what if?

I agree ...no one committing to us right now is thinking we will be National Champions in 2013 ..they are coming because they know we will be in that direction ..and as long as the team shows fighting spirit and unity we should be able to hold on most of the commits, baring odd one and two...

Haha. He was all like spellcheck complete. Got my headers. Rows and columns line up. Now I have to do is click the "submit reply" button, sit back, and watch the appreciation for my insightful forethought roll in.

{removed silly W-L argument}
The more we lose this year, the better the recruits feel their early playing chances are.

It is quite obvious you DON'T GET IT.......LOL

This class is not about W/L but more about attitudes, family, facilities, Coaching, Legacy, and building. Very rarely do young men have a sense to create and build something of an organization at an early age....These athletes are of high caliber and character. Some are legacies some are wanting to be part of this rebuilding opportunity.....I have not read nor seen a recruit or potential recruit state that they were not comfortable here nor did any committed recruit state that they were pressured to make an early on commitment.

Yes we may lose one or two or three but not for the reasons of W/Ls. We have had two decommitments to date...why? The W/L record? Various reasons.....

What you need to do is to put down your pencil and paper and read the recruiting Forum, go to the twitter pages read them....Think about it, have a beer and use some common sense......

Do us a favor and Stay away from Stats and the correlations between recruits and W/L records because there is a factor you evidently have no clue about....

It is Coach Jones and how he and the staff deal with young athletes and their recruitment...

Furthermore, 60% attrition would be 18 commits
decommitting, are you serious.... At our projected record, 6-6, you show us with 15 Decommits....Show me that anywhere in NCAA history.

You definitely have not been to the recruiting thread because this is where this thread belongs......

I definitely want what you are smoking...

Please don't invite him to the recruiting forum.... :whistling:

I'm still amazed that some idiots on here really do think these recruits expect us to go 10-2 this season..despite firing our coach along with the entire staff, coming off a historically bad season(s), mixed with a bunch of freshmen starting at key positions...these recruits obviously get what some on here don't...they aren't committed to UT based on our recent success...SINCE WE HAVE NONE....they're coming to fix the problem.

Since we are doing "what ifs". What if we won the national championship. Shut out bama. Get lane kiffin fired and hired on the cowboys somehow. Then Bruce Pearl is aloud to come back to UT. Then johnny majors quits drinking. How many recruits we going to keep?

Eh? well . . .

I simply asked myself that if I was a 3* or better player and verbally committed to the Vols, how would my chances of signing with the Vols be affected by the number of wins?

The correlation is academic. The majority of players, not all mind you though, look to be part of a winning program. CBJ has done a great job off the field but if he doesnt produce W's on the field, there are going to be defections. And yes, if the team plays hard and shows a bunch of heart that will help slow the flow but, if we dont get W's soon, signing days may very possibly not match our expectations.

Your username confuses James Franklin IMO.

The Hyatt Regency near the Tennessee campus in Knoxville is the spot to take a friend to dinner in that town, it being a house of class amenities and good food and where, in the dim light of the Volador restaurant, a man can get some privacy. Johnny Majors and his companion found a corner table. Almost immediately the manager and his wife dropped by for a chat. Shortly after, a bottle of wine was sent over from another table.

"The job's a fishbowl," Majors said. "I'm not complaining, it just takes getting used to."

Even in a last-minute farmhouse recruiting session where - 03.28.77 - SI Vault

Cool story... I learned something today.

Also, for the record, I wasn't questioning your fanhood, merely pointing out that James Franklin is easily confused.

"fanhood"

Guess we are even. You have introduced me to a new word!!

Anyone out there remember dining in the Volador atop the Hyatt??

Spellcheck wouldn't fix that. Wear, although used incorrectly, is still spelled correctly.

On another note, who really gives a crap about spelling errors? Half of us are on mobile devices where the words are so small that you often don't realize your mistake until after you've posted. It's a Internet message board, you understood what he was trying to say, there's no need to be pretentious about it.

Ok excuse me.

First I would celebrate, then have to listen to excuses from friends who run around in crimson. Then I would laugh hard twice cause I freakin hate the cowboys. Then, I would go up to UT, and buy season tickets for basketball. And I would go say goodbye to Johnny as he spends at least the next 5 years in a DT clinic. (You know someone isn't gonna be happy, because Johnny's urine has been used by NASCAR as an octane booster.)

And I STILL don't know until NSD how many recruits we keep. Not until then.
