Holly needs to be let go tomorrow

I have read several post where the players are blamed for the issues on this team and efforts made to give Holly a pass. Holly does not deserve a pass nor players being blamed for what we are seeing now. The root cause is our offense that is one dementional. The players do not come up with the offensive game plan, that is the job of the head coach. When you give players only one option, throw it inside, throw it inside, and this option does not work, players will become frustrated, they are 18 to 21 year old young people what do we expect?
Once you become frustrated, I mean anyone, I do not care if you are 75, your mindset deteriorates and you have no clue how to get things back on track. The players are confused as to how they can overcome the situation. This happens to every team every now and then, even UCONN. It is up to the coaching staff to come up with a plan of attack that includes options when you are cut off from being successful at your original plan. Holly and her coaching staff should go into every game knowing they will see the zone defence. Holly and the coaches are responsible for creating a way to bust the zone.

All the while we will waste the talent of Diamond Deshields. Diamond did not go all thru all the mess to come here to be mediocre. The lady vol program lose a lot of support in the meantime.

Our problem with this team are the guards...not Holly! They can't score, play defense, nor dribble drive.

And who recruited these guards? Who gets paid a six figure salary to teach these guards to score, play defense, and dribble drive?

Pat's players are all gone, this roster was completely assembled by Holly. Their glaring deficiencies are a reflection of Holly's failure to evaluate talent and/or her failure to develop it. Either way, this mess is completely on the coach no matter how many excuses you want to make for her...

Smh....Holly can't win for losing! Basketball 101....how do you beat a zone??? Shoot well from the perimeter! Holly can't shoot the damn 3s nor the mid range shots. Almost 3/4ths of the shots we took from 3 were mainly open BECAUSE of the offensive scheme Holly and Co set up for the players. These players SUCK at shooting the rock....end of story! Carter sucks...Reynolds sucks....Middleton sucks. These players are good at certain aspects of the game but SHOOTING is not one of them! Until we get a guard that can light it up from the perimeter, we're going to struggle.

I get that Holly wants to bang the ball inside. Any competent coach knows that the most efficient way to score points is by scoring the ball as close to the basket as possible. The %s don't lie. If you run your offense through the post it almost ALWAYS creates an open shot....which we get....we just miss!

You are right that it is not all on Holly and Staff. The LVs got enough open shots to have put VT away. On he other side, when you have a collection of quality players (at least based on high school rankings) who can't shoot, play defense, nor dribble at some point you have to ask - why not? What is the common thread that is leading to this ineptitude. If Coaches get the glory for big wins and championships, they also have to shoulder the burden of under performing teams. The offense also generates too many turnovers and bad possessions, and which are generally due to poor spacing and a lack of movement.

As Holly says, it is her job to figure it out but it is looking like doubling down and throw the ball into the post and don't quick shoot is not going to be the cure.

I really do want to see Holly succeed and I have been in her camp but the team needs to show some dramatic improvement quickly or the aura of declining program will continue to build.

For the most part I agree with you, but most of these guards were good shooters in high school. I wonder why they come to Tennessee and now they can't hit their ass with both of their hands. It is very strange how we have recruited so many guards that suck when they use to shoot lights out and were good players on both sides of the ball.

When a team is playing zone you do not have to always shoot from downtown Knoxville. You can set screens for mid range jumpers, you can dribble drive, etc. We pass the ball around in a half circle. After half circle passing, we do one of seven things, get it to a post(If we are lucky), pass the ball to the other team, throw the ball out of bounds, lose the ball on the dribble, have the ball stolen, attempt to pass into double coverage or shoot a desperation shot.

Holly has a great defensive plan, there is no doubt, however, the coach has to take the blame for correcting issues on both sides of the ball. That is why Holly makes the big bucks. If your guards can't shoot, then recruit ones who can. It is very difficult to say, Poor Holly, her players are the entire issue."Whatever the issues are, this team needs a coach who can correct them, and real soon. I do not mean to fire Holly right now, I want her to play this thing out and see if she can come up with the answer.

Fyi, I've spent my time today while awaiting the Holly firing squad constructively.

Just finished making a batch of Pesto from my late season basil and putting it into ice cube trays to freeze. Wifey likes to use it in cooking. And I like to eat, lol.

Now going to put together a super duper meatloaf recipe that I got from the mother in law aka best cook in town.

Just taking a lunch break.

Gule out!

The meatloaf sounds good--haven't had it in ages.

To LadyVols point about our guards simply missing shots: I think our guards have been bad. But it is more than just players missing shots. Does ANYONE doubt that if Geno or McGraw (or 50 other coaches) had this team our offense would be SIGNIFICANTLY better? Same players, and the offense probably would be at least 50 percent better. Sets would be better, practices harder and more demanding, more movement, more picks, better passing, smarter decisions, fewer turnovers...tighter rotation, players would know and be comfortable in their roles; MORE CONFIDENCE individually and as a team. When a team like ours only scores 43, there are more and bigger issues than just players missing shots.

how did yours turn out? my 86 yo mother in law finished off ours yesterday by having meatloaf sandwiches for lunch and dinner... lol

Love seeing that lady eating & happy. Sometimes it's a struggle to get her to eat anything... her health is fading, age related.

Me and my girlfriend made it yesterday. Turned out great, but I added some hot sauce..good stuff. Thanks for the recipe.

Unfortunately, I had my first experience watching a family member get dementia. Just plain horrible. In the span of maybe four months, she went from knowing who I was
to not even knowing my name and just giving everyone a blank stare. Dementia also doesn't just affect ones memory, it also can leave one in a vegetative state, to where you are totally dependent on someone else for 100 percent of care. Ah just a dreaded disease.

Back to the current topic..I've criticized holly and the coaching staff and I believe it's been warranted, but I still support her as head coach. Hopefully they get things turned around. if they could get people healthy and start making some shots then things should get better. Gotta stop the turnovers though

without first getting a "blessing" from Pat? I have to believe Pat still holds a fair amount of influence pertaining to the BB program.
